TOWN BOARD MINUTES

December 2 , 1965
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was held at the Town Hall , Thursday , December 2 , 1965 at 8 : 00 P . M .
Present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Justices Henry
Makarainen , Moses Peter ; Councilman Donald Makie and Donald Barber .
Also present : Highway Superintendent Chaffee , Zoning Officer
Hatfield , Gould Colman and Roy Casterline .
• Supervisor Cortright called the meeting to order . Minutes
of the November meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . From Ernest Dahrnen , Jr . re : Air strip on Vandermark property .
2 . Leo J . Nowak , 1307 James Avenue , Niagara Falls requesting
Subdivision Regulations and Zoning Ordinance .
3 . Association of Towns acknowledging receipt of dues from Town .
4 . Finger Lakes State Parks Commission re : Jennings Pond .
5 . Layne Water Supply Co . re : West Danby Test Drilling &
Permanent Supply .
6 .• Policies from Ithaca Insurance Agency .
7 . Resolution - Fee Schedule and Policy regarding the sale and
use of Tax Maps , County of Tompkins .
PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
None from the Board . Roy Casterle1s .p _on behalf of the
D anby Community Council that the TownVti side a' Town Clean- up
D ay , resulting from the bad feeling among the Firemen who worked
on clean - up last spring . Discussion followed and Town Board
will get in touch with the Community Council .
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Highway - None .
Zoning - Makie reported he has talked with Fred Thayer and plan
has gone out to bid for printing of zoning ordinance .
Also the Electric and Gas wants to put up a substation ,
about an acre lot and 200 feet of road frontage in the
Town . Makie was advised to take this up with Regional
Planning Board for their advice .
Fire - None .
Cemetery - None .
Insurance - Peter reported that Bill Scott looked into Workmen ' s
Compensation- - advises to go along with Glens Falls Group .
Youth - None . .
OLD BUSINESS
Highway - Superintendent Chaffee reported one Erwin Road Project
to finish .
Zoning - Hatfield reported he has sent out about 25 letters of
intent regarding owner ' s action when the town enforces
® the State Junkyard Law after January 1 . No word has
been received from Thaler .
P lanning Board - Chairman absent .
B oard of Assessors - Chairman left word before meeting that they
are through with appraisals and working on rate of
percentages .
Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
Town Hall Study - Professor Jacobs has looked over the Town Hall .
Jennings Pond - Ralph Carpenter quoted a price of $ 2300 . 00 to put
dike across , clean out bottom and install pipe . '
Coddington Road Youth - Peter made motion that clerk advise " ' ',,Y
CoddingtonRoad Youth that at this time Danby cannot
participate in their Youth Program . Seconded by Barber .

Troy Road Junkyard - No report .
West Danby Water District - Letter from Layne Water Supply was
read recommending that 2 or 3 test wells be drilled not
to exceed $3500 . 00 .

Sanitary Land Fill - Supervisor Cortright will contact another
source for land .
B ingo - No report .
Town Office Building - Town Board visited Cortlandville Town
Office Building and will visit Vestal
December 9 , at 5 : 30 P . M .
Special Census - Supervisor Cortright feels if we have one , it
should be done on a County basis . Need cost
figures .
Resolution #7 Participation in Workmen ' s Compensation
Plan - Town of Danby
Moved by Peter . Seconded by Makie . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
NEW BUSINESS
Makie made the motion to authorize the Town of Danby to pay
Compensation Insurance apportionment of $ 1695 . 54 and Election III
expense apportionment of $ 208 . 75 to the County Treasurer .

Makarainen and Peter will set date for Bill Scott of Ithaca
Insurance to meet with . .
G ould Colman invited Board members to attend a meeting on
E conomic Opportunity December 6th at 8 : 00P . M .
Supervisor Cortright reported , Town Tax Rate - $ 31 . 26 which
is fourteen cents over last year .
Makie made the motion to authorize at Town Expense any Town
Officer attending the Association of Towns meeting in New
York , February 7 , 8 , and 9 , 1966 . Seconded, by Barber .

Makie moved to pay General Fund Bills #107 through #117 totalling
$ 521 . 54 as listed on Warrant 12 . Seconded by Barber . 5 ayes ,
O noes , carried .
Peter moved to pay Highway Fund Bills # 113 through #125 totalling
$ 2 , 449 . 75 as listed on Warrant 12 . Seconded by Makarainen .
