We have requested $500.00 as in previous years to be added to the continuing amount. Our Committee was not sure after looking at the total amount carried each year, that our expenses have been deducted from our budget. I include a copy of the monies we have spent. There are a few blanks in 1991 1 have noted the date of the newsletter these expenses cover. The amounts should be close to what the other newsletters have been. I assume the town's Book Keeper will have the details. Please call if you have questions. The Town Historian asked us also to: make sure that a note was given regarding:< The $600 the Town of Enfield spent on the preservation of the 1800 map, located in the Town Hall, is not to be deducted from the Commemorative Committee Budget. This $600 is a separate Town item. would also like to update you of the committee's work. Our main topic and work has been on the book, History of the Town of Enfield. The first writing of each chapter for this book is due to our committee January 1994. Corrections and publishing in 1995. We have contacted the Heart of the Lakes Publishing company for estimates on the printing of this book. We were given an estimate of $3,000 plus. This was based on a book of 320 pages with pictures at $10 each. We have decided to go ahead and gather all the information we can for the book and add all the pictures we wish and then contact the printer(s) again. This would be a printing of 500 copies of this book. I have enclosed a copy of the outline of the chapters of the book. Jean Owens August 20, 1992 Page 2 A group is also working on a Enfield one-two room school house reunion. Dennis Newhart started the project and hopefully by next year we will be hosting a reunion, which will gather more information for our Enfield Book. We have discussed and are slowly looking into a Monument for the Town of Enfield, possibly two. One would be in tribute to all who served in the military of our United States. The second would be for the early settlers of our town. Possible locations for these monuments would be in Enfield Center and at the Christian Cemetery. They would be simple such as, a rather large rock, with a bronze plaque. A town Parade (10-10:30 a.m.) followed by a Family Picnic has also been 'discussed. These events would involve mainly - only Enfield residents. The Family Picnic would be simple - everyone brings their own meal and perhaps, drinks and watermelon would be provided by the Committee and through donations. This is based on the Picnics which were held in the past. Perhaps even a baseball game could be found! Nina Linton and her quilting group have been very busy quilting both a quilt to raffle off, and a quilt wall hanging for display in the town. We have all enjoyed this committee and as time goes by our group grows. Meeting the old and new residents of our town has been invigorating and a learning experience which we will hold on to for the rest of our lives. I invite all who are interested in their town of Enfield to come to our Committee meetings and enjoy the comradery of history. Thank you.
