HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995 minutes commemorative committeeCommemorative Committee Meetina_ - Enfield Town Hall_- October 25, 1995 Page 1 Wilma Fisher, Gary Fisher, Sue Thompson, Ellie Hobbie, Kristine Carsons(PTA Enfield) Kristine visited because the PTA wanted to know and learn what they could possibly do for the history celebration. The Committee filled her in on what is being done. Recipes: recipes will be sorted out into the following categories: meats and main dishes appetizers, relishes and pickles cakes, cookies, desserts soups, salads, sauces breads, rolls, pastries vegetables beverages, microwave, misc. Things to look for while sorting out recipes: duplicate type recipes - take out. needs first and last name recipes need author count for each category Any recipes taken out can be said to be used in the next edition. The recipes will be sorted out by: Gary: cookies, cakes, desserts Ellie: pastries Ellie: salads, vegetables, soups Sue: main dishes, meats, beverages, microwave, misc. appetizers, relishes, pickles Advertising for the cookbook -need to check prices. The prices suggested seem ok. Need to check for businesses. The Committee wants to use the recipes suggested by the Company to make more money. Business: West Hill Woods -Alan Carsons (Mecklenburg Road) Doug Willis - Stoker Stoves Seniors want to know how many tickets will be made for the quilt raffle. Gary will contact Linda VanNederynen or Katie Knapp regarding the quilt. The Committee will contact Jean Owens regarding the account for spending and collecting money for projects. Submitted by Sue Thompson ENFIELD COMMEMORATIVE COMMITTEE - APRIL 26, 1995 - ENFIELD TOWN HALL, ENFIELD NEW YORK Attendance: Wilma Fisher, Sue Thompson, Ellie Hobbie Minutes of March meeting were approved with corrections - Francis LaBomard (sp.) visitor and spelling of Modeens. There was discussion on having mugs made with the mill picture from the trivet put on them. Perhaps we can have Eddy Advertising do this. Sue T. handed out a list of government representatives to invite to the Birthday Ceremony. Ellie H. will contact Representatives Dan Winch, Peter Meskill, and Marty Luster for presenting a speech at the celebration. A reminder to send invitations to President Clinton, Vice President Gore and Governor Pataki. Sue T. handed out a list of local Enfield groups to invite to participate in the celebration. The Committee rewrote a letter, which Sue had started, to be used for contacting the groups. Sue will send letter to groups on list. The Committee would like to invite the oldest community members to speak at the Birthday Ceremony. Two names were mentioned Helena Schaber and Harold Laue. Sue T. handed out two more lists: a list of ideas for the Birthday Celebration Ceremony look over and, a "To Do" items list for the history book. There is lots to do on the book. Decided to just keep on working until they are sorted and rewritten (some of them). Next meeting will be a short talk at the Historical Society meeting - December 20. Gary reported talking to Rev. Andrews Methodist Church. The Rev. agreed to the May Memorial Service need to contact all church? Possible r)roaram for Birthdav Program: Contact Barbara Kone for how Town of Caroline set up celebration of dedication - Sue T. will contact. March 16. 1996 - Saturdav 2:00 P.M. Blowing of horns and bells at 2 pm throughout the town - Fire Co./Churches? Speakers: (possible topics would be major highlights of Enfield History) Politicians, Ministers, Oldest Person(s) in Town, Principal of Elementary School Nan Brown, Local Town Business Owners, Town Supervisor. Presentations: Presentation of Flag (representative of flag flown over Wash. DC) to Town Supervisor from Hinchey's office (office making arrangements for flag flying). Resolution from Town Board (note of 12/20 Sue T. - have copy of bicentennial. resolution. from T -burg. could follow for copy). Permit for use of Elementary School - Ellie will check at main office. Decoration - decorate the school a week ahead of time (red, white and blue bunting). Ellie will check with Mary Cole at the school for help on this. Programs - state agenda need printer Music - band at school - start spangled banner, historical period music. Ellie will check with music teacher at school. (Sue T. note - might check with other musicians in the community also). Photographers - Roy Woolney and Jack Hubbell Video - Clark Marshall - (Sue T. will find) Enfield Commemorative Committee - March 22, 1995 - .Enfield Town Hall, Enfield New York Attendance: Wilma Fisher, Gary Fisher, Sue Thompson, Ellie Hobbie, Helena Schaber, KloxLUI Wilma F. shared a letter from Catherine Kellogg regarding the article in the Ithaca Journal on the WCTU and the way it was reported. Sue T. will write a letter to Catherine regarding the WCTU material written for the book. [Note - the letter was written and Catherine was told that the information on the Enfield WCTU Units was taken from the Minutes of books of the various Units and that no "stories" were included in the chapter. st There was lots of discussion on the book. iswvntten still waiting for a few authors. The arts sections - individual articles and spinning still have to be typed. Sue T. will look into obtaining 3 bids on the printing of the book for the next meeting. Gary F. reported no change in the Trivet Project Alice L. has reported she will go ahead on the Cookbook project. Question of advertising came up and how it would be done. 1996 Celebration Sue T. reported that Mary Cole asked for suggestions on what the Enfield Elementary School could do for the Celebration. Sue T. will ask Alice L. About reservations for school on March 16. The Committee was asked to bring suggestions back for the following: 1. Agenda for Celebration on March 1996 2. List of people to invite to celebration 3. List of organizations to send letter to people for getting involved. 4. Letter for requesting people to get involved. Roger Hubbell is contact for the Grange Building if the Committee would like to use it for any of the celebration. The committee discussed the Logo. The Logo "Ellieg Favorite" which was done by Dana Moxley. Sue T. would like to see put on a T-shirt or Sweat Shirt. Bill M. reserved the inside cover -or back cover for advertising for his business Dan's Cookies. The Committee will meet next Wednesday - January -31 - 7:30 Town Hall, at which time all recipes should be ready to send to the publisher. Advertising will also then be discussed for -the recipe book. Bill M. suggested -getting addresses from Alice L. of people who do business with the Town and asking those businesses to advertising in the cookbook-. Birthday Party: Reserved School Ellie H. has reserved Enfield Elementary School (EES) for Saturday -March 16. The Gym.will be used for - the Ceremony. -Ellie will recheck on the time reserved. Need to be in the school from approximately 12:00 noon until --5:00 pm. Tables, sound system, -ch airs will also be provided. Decorations - Ellie asked Mary, Cole to decorate the school for the party. Need more details (who pays for:'Ithe supplies-? and what supplies are needed, will the outside of the school be decorated? ECC - 1/24/96 7. T -Shirts, Mugs,'Envelopes — Commemorative Committee (Sue T. will contact EES 5th Grade to ask -.if they would- like to sell these items plus receive a % of the intake from -the items). Ellie will find >a business .to make up T-shirts and Mugs. Sue T. will have logo' signed by ' Dana -Moxley who drew -the Logo for the T-shirts. NOTE: Sue T. contacted Linda Dutweiler, EES 5th Grade teacher regarding above asked to have an answer by, Feb. 9th. Bill M.' suggested involving the Sons of 109th Veterans Sidney Camp. (How would they- be'involved?) Invitations: Local politicians as stated in previous meetings. Need to find listing of officials from previous meeting. Gary F. wrote a simple invitation will check -into have this printing so we can send them out., He will check for someone to address separately by name the invitations. Refreshments: Sandy Trutt (Halseyville Road) - Sue T. will contact Sandy for reserving her Catering Service on March 16. Cake, Punch and Coffee should -'be served based on 200 people., NOTE: Sue T. called Sandy Trutt gave, above request Sandy will call"back with details she suggests and price. Advertising: Ellie H. will contact local.papers and radio stations. They will contact Sue T. for a few of`the'details.
