HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-BPW-1995-01-04BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE January 4, 1995 NOTES PRESENT: Commissioners Seligmann, Tripp, Rusoff, Reeves, Mayor Nichols, Alderperson Johnson, and Superintendent Gray, Assistant Superintendents Fabbroni and Ferrel. Commissioner Reeves chaired the meeting. Additions: Edgemoor Parking Request for Modifications to West State Street Parking Lot Behind IFD There were no deletions from the agenda. u a o treet ump tation. Michael Greschler, Real Estate Agent for R. Greschler & Associates, was present to West Buffalo address the board. Mr. Greschler requested that the board d eclare Street as surplus property. The building on the property houses a control panel and access to the tunnel that leads to the pump station below the Meadow /Buffalo Street intersection. In addition, it serves as storage for voting machines. Mr. Greschler stated that he spoke with Ken Harding of Water and Sewer regarding the abandonment of the building. Mr. Harding had explained that access to the tunnel and control panel is imperative. Asst. Supt. Fabbroni and Supt. Gray told hand as that if accommodations are made for the access, the city could de property surplus. The board agreed to vote on a resolution at the next regular meeting to request Common Council to negotiate the sale of 530 West Buffalo Street. 2. Re guest for Modifications to West State Street Parkina Lot uenino mv. Mr. Gerard explained that not all homeowners were able to remove the snow from their sidewalks making pedestrian travel very difficult. Rusoff noted that homeowners on these streets would receive an unfair advantage by having the snow cleared at the city's expense. Asst. Supt. Mr. Gerard noted that the routes are only proposals and they seemed to be safer than Seneca which are used more. Supt. Gray noted that a pedestrian route was a good idea since many pedestrians use the roads creating a dangerous situation. Alderperson Thorpe was present and explained that without the routes it is very difficult to get around the city. Comm. Tripp suggested that the routes be adopted temporarily and that staff could modify them once they have been utilized a few times. The board agreed a resolution should be presented to adopt emergency pedestrian routes on a temporary basis. 4 N Tioga and Farm Street Intersection Curb Chan�Lc es. Supt. Gray explained that the temporary bump outs installed at the intersection of Farm and North Tioga seemed to improve nmade permanent and that the dent statistics. He suggested that the bump outs be temporary structure be moved to Tompkins and North Tioga. Alderperson Thorpe felt that the bump outs would also improve the Tompkins Street intersection. A resolution will be presented at the next regular meeting to make the bump outs at Farm and Tioga permanent and to put temporary bump outs at Tompkins and Tioga Street. Mayor Nichols said that the committee and liaison assignment would remain the same except that Steve Ehrhardt would take over Parking and Traffic and that Comm. Reeves would take over Creeks, Bridges, and Parks while Comm. Tripp would concentrate on DPW consolidation. 6 Edgemoor Parking. Supt. Gray explained that the plan for meter expansion includes Edgemoor Place. The current regulation prohibits parking on the south side of the street. Staff is recommending that parking be prohibited on the north side of the street. This will allow easier access to meters since there is a sidewalk on the south side of the street. Comm. Rusoff suggested that the fraternities on Edgemoor be notified of the proposed change. The board agreed that a resolution will be voted on at the next meeting to modify the parking regulations on Edgemoor Lane. The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m. Notes taken by: Donna L.
