Hoefle appeared before e oar to inqu re Lf the y would consider the installation of curbs and gutters in Homestead Road and assess the property owners for the cost. She stated that there are now six homes in the street and that the owners will agree to pay the assessment for the installation. It was explained that under the present rules, the City may not make improvements in privately owned streets, nor accept title to a street until curbs and gutters and other services are installed, but that the subject has been discussed and consideration will be given her request. City engineer was directed to prepare specifications for the installation of curbs and gutters and storm sewers in the street and submit the estimate of the cost of such installation. L. L. GRAHAI'. Aurora Street, Ithaca. The application was accepted and ordered placed on file. PROTEST OF CHARGES FOR CLEANING SIDEWALKS The Clerk reported receipt -of e tern from Mr. A. urns of 231 Ridgedale Road, and from Mr. Charles W. Jones of 946 E. State Street protesting the charges made for cleaning sidewalks at their premises. The letters stated that the walks had been cleaned earlier in the day that City forces cleaned them. By Commissioner Egbert, seconded by Commissioner Hopper: Resolved, that it is the sense of this Board that the protests be denied and the charges collected in accordance with Charter pro- visions. Carried. AIRPORT LEASE Attorney Powers reported that he is satisfied that the present lease of the municipal airport is invalid for various reasons, and that the committee appointed at the meeting held January 24, 1942 will probably have recommendations to make at the next meeting of the Council. He stated that Mr. H. HOI, 6T:.:.AD ROAD Commissioner ' =ard reported ti .at the hi way omm ttee has g ven consideration to the improve - nt� nts recommended for Homestead Road, but since present rules do nut permit the City to do work on private streets, the City engineer ,,.as directed to notify Dr. Hoefle of the estimated cost of the work, :.t being understood that curbs and gutters would not be required, turd that after the completion of the improvements, the City will ccnsider acceptance of the street. Commissioner Lgbert again expressed the opinion that the rules governing the acceptance of subdivisions should be amended and it was moved By Commissioner Hopper, seconded by Commissioner Halverson: Resolved, that the 14ayor be requested to appoint a committee to study the matter of amending the rules governing subdivisions. Carried. The kayor appointed the Highway Committee of the Board and the Council ComAttee on Relations with the Board and the City Attorney to the committee. EXTRA S.SRVICFS - WATER DEPARTMENT Supt. Carpenter reported that a number 7;f Mar ror aw ng water services during the winters of 1934 and 1936 and for pumping cellars during the flood of 1935 re- main unpaid. He recommended that they be expunged. Mr. Carpenter was directed to present an itemized list of these items to the Board for consideration. NO. 6 FIR STATIO14 PLANS Commissioner Halverson reported that the Buildings nouns ommittee has studied the plans and specifica- -�ions for the proposed addition to No. 6 Fire Station and that the Committee has approved the plans subject to the final approval of ?1re Chief Reilly. It was suggested that bidding on the work be limited to resid- ents of the City and County and Attorney Powers assured the Board that bidding; could be so limited. By Commissioner Halverson, seconded by Commissioner Norton: Resolved, that the plans and specifications as submitted be and hereby are approved by this :Board, and Be It Further Resolved, that the Clerk be authorized and ,irected to advertise for bids thereon when plans and specifications are finally approved by Fire Chief Reilly. Gibb has presented a standard contract for his work ?_n connection with the preparation of plans and specifications for the addition to the Fire Station and he recommended approval by the *'oard. Gibb several years ago prepared Dlans for the improvement of Fire Station No. 6, at which time the project was postponed, and Vdhereas, both the Common Council and the Board of Public forks, at meetings held December 18, 1941 and December 23, 1941 approved the retention of P.:.r. Gibb as Architect and authorized him to proceed with the preparation of plans, and specifications, and 2 164 Board of Public forks -4- March 25, 1942 Whereas, the project has now been approved for construction during; the current year, and a proposed contract has been presented for approval, • Now Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Layor and Clerk be and hereby are authorized and directed to execute the contract with A. N. Gibb, Architect, as submitted.
