COMMON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
CITY OF ITHACA, NEW YORK
Special Meeting 3:00 p.m. January 1, 2002
PRESENT:
Mayor Cohen
Alderpersons (8) Pryor, Sams, Blumenthal, Mack, Manos,
Vaughan, Hershey, Taylor
Alderpersons Elect: Peterson, Whitmore, Cogan
EXCUSED:
Alderpersons (2) Farrell, Spielholz
OTHERS PRESENT:
City Clerk – Conley Holcomb
City Attorney - Schwab
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
Mayor Cohen led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the
American flag.
DISMISSAL OF OUTGOING COUNCIL
Alderperson Hershey thanked Alderperson Taylor for her service to
the City of Ithaca and specifically to the constituents of the
Fifth Ward. He noted Jana’s compassion and tenacity in working
through difficult issues, and reflected on her quiet savvy, and
courage while enduring lengthy meetings.
Mayor Cohen thanked Alderperson Taylor as well and noted that it
was a privilege to work with her. Mayor Cohen presented
Alderperson Taylor with a Proclamation thanking her for her
dedication and years of service to the City of Ithaca, and
wishing her luck in her future endeavors.
Alderperson Taylor thanked her family for their unwavering
support, the Mayor, Common Council, and City staff for their hard
work and dedication, and offered words of advice to the incoming
Council members.
Alderperson Mack thanked Alderperson Spielholz for her hard work
and years of service to the City. He stated that although he
only had an opportunity to serve with her for a short period, her
in depth knowledge of the issues was proof of her dedication to
the City.
OATH OF OFFICE – ALDERPERSONS ELECT
Mayor Cohen extended words of welcome the Alderpersons elect, and
stated that he is looking forward to working with them on the
challenges that face the City.
Mayor Cohen administered the Oath of Office to the following
Alderpersons Elect:
Paulette Manos – First Ward
David Whitmore – Second Ward
Patricia Vaughan – Third Ward
Peter Mack – Fourth Ward
Carolyn Peterson – Fourth Ward
Daniel Cogan – Fifth Ward

Mayor Cohen extended congratulations to the new Council members
and wished all present, a Happy New Year!

On a motion the meeting adjourned at 3:25 P.M.
