HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CC-2001-10-29 1 COMMON COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS CITY OF ITHACA, NEW YORK Special Meeting 7:00 p.m. October 29, 2001 PRESENT: Mayor Cohen Alderpersons (9) Pryor, Sams, Blumenthal, Manos, Farrell, Vaughan, Spielho1z, Taylor, Hershey OTHERS PRESENT: City Clerk – Conley Holcomb City Attorney - Schwab City Controller – Cafferillo Deputy Controller – Thayer Economic Development Director - McDonald PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Cohen led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS: Shade Tree Advisory Council Alderperson Farrell reported that an announcement was made at the Shade Tree Advisory Council meeting that the City is eligible to receive 20 trees, free of charge, through a NYS tree program. The trees must be used for a memorial or commemorative “grove”. Action is needed by Council to accept the offer for the trees. Only 100 trees are being offered Statewide, but the City of Ithaca is eligible for 20 trees due to the hard work of City Forester Andrew Hillman, and his urban forest program. The Parks Commission will be responsible for the placement of the trees. Resolution By Alderperson Farrell: Seconded by Alderperson Blumenthal RESOLVED, That Common Council accept the twenty trees being offered through the New York State Tree Program, and, be it further, RESOLVED, That the Shade Tree Advisory Council and the Parks Commission be responsible for the placement of the trees. Carried Unanimously NEW BUSINESS: Motion to Enter into Executive Session to Seek Legal Counsel By Alderperson Hershey: Seconded by Alderperson Pryor RESOLVED, That Common Council adjourn into Executive Session to seek legal counsel. Carried Unanimously Alderpersons Sams, Taylor, Spielholz arrived at the meeting at 7:15 pm. RECONVENE: Common Council reconvened into Regular Session at 8:50 p.m. with no formal action taken.
