SPECIAL ORDER OF BUSINESS: Consideration of Bid for West State Street Construction Project Superintendent of Public Works Gray and Civil Engineer West addressed questions from Common Council members regarding the West State Street construction project. Superintendent Gray addressed comments made about a recent newspaper article that reported on the poor condition of the bricks that were installed in the 300 block of West State Street last summer. He explained that the bricks are already showing wear, partially due to snowplows. A meeting has been scheduled with the contractor to determine the possibility of manufacturing defect as the bricks have only been in place nine months. Alderperson Hershey recommended that Council not take action on this item as the City has the luxury of delaying this project until spring, and several Council members have voiced their objections to bidding the project at this time. Alderperson Manos noted that she has spoken with construction consultants and West State Street merchants, and suggested that the City re-bid this project during the winter with a project start date of March 1, 2001 to take full advantage of cost benefits. She further noted that the merchants are anxious for this project to begin, and would like to be kept apprised of the situation. ADJOURNMENT: On a motion the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 pm. Denise Malone, Alan J. Cohen, Administrative Secretary Mayor
