April 26, 1999 PRESENT: Mayor Cohen Alderpersons (8) Shenk, Sams, Marcham, Hershey, Manos, Farrell, Spielholz, Taylor EXCUSED: Alderpersons (2) Blumenthal, Vaughan OTHERS PRESENT: City Clerk – Conley Holcomb Superintendent of Public Works – Gray Fire Chief - Wilbur Police Chief - Basile Human Resources Director – Michell-Nunn PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Mayor Cohen led all present in the Pledge of Allegiance to the American flag. Special Order of Business 2.1 Closure of Stewart Park for Pud’s Run – Resolution By Alderperson Manos: Seconded by Alderperson Taylor RESOLVED, That the organizers of the 3rd Annual Pud’s Run, scheduled for August 29, 1999, are authorized to close Stewart Park to vehicular traffic for one hour, commencing 15 minutes before the race starts, to accommodate the safe conduct of the race. Extensive discussion followed on the floor regarding amending language requesting that the Ithaca Police Department seek alternative solutions to closing the park in future years. It was noted that the park would only be closed for approximately 45 minutes on the day of the race, which has been organized in recognition of a fallen Ithaca Police Officer. It was further noted that the park has been closed for much longer periods of times for other community events such as the Ithaca Festival. A vote on the Resolution resulted as follows: Ayes (7) Manos, Shenk, Farrell, Taylor, Spielholz, Marcham, Sams Nays (1) Hershey Carried ADJOURNMENT: On a motion the meeting adjourned at 7:15 P.M. ________________________ _______________________ Julie Conley Holcomb, CMC Alan J.
