Edward Crittenden,for the remainder of The ur. '::pirecl term ending December 31, 193,;r Alderman Joseph i`yers was nominated by Alderma:.h Eoffiar a:.1 seconded by Alderman Causer. There being no other nominations, and on motion of Alderman ('auser the nominations were closed. Before voting on the appointment Alderman Rogalsky asked for a ruling by the City Attorney as to whether Alderman Myers might serve as Supervisor as well as Alderman. Attorney Treman stated that the Charter specifically provides that the sane person might be appointed- to hold more -than one office and as- he could find no law covering elective officers -and no law covering elective officers and no law prohibiting, he could see no reason why such a move would be improper or illegal. The Mayor called for a roll Call - on the election and appointment of Alderman :.iyers and the result was Ayes 10 Nays 0. The Mayor declared -Alderman Myers duly appointed as Supervisor of the Third Lard to fill the unexpir- ed term of former Supervisor Crittenden. Memorial . • The Clerk reported that the following resolution Hospital had been unanimously adopted by the Board of . Directors of the .Charbei of Commerce and that he had been requested to present the same to the Council: "RESOLVED,that the Chamber of Commerce recommend to the Board of Trustees of the Memorial Hospital, likewise to the Common Council of our city, that a joint conference of both bodies be held in the near future for the purpose of devising a perma- nent plan to be put in operation by Jan.1, 1934 by which .the Memorial Hospital will be adequately financed in a definite manner by general taxation, and under direction of a Board of Managers to be ii appointed by the Mayor and the Common Council, similar in operation to that of our present i Board of Health. " • By Alderman - seconded by Alderman Myers: RESOLVED! th t the Mayor appoint a Committee to • act on the suggestion contained in the resolution. Carried. • The Mayor appointed the Finance Committee to act for the Common Council in this matter. Thaddeus - The Clerk read a communication from Ignatius K. Kosciuszko Werwinski requesting the Council to pass; a resolution memorializirrg Congress to enact resolutions to commenorate the life of Thaddeus Koscmuszko as a - hero of the Revolution .. Tri �n.CJ New Gas Attorney Treman reported that the 5?l, 500 that the Rates Aldermen had app*o‘priated for professional services in connection with the gas rate hearings had been apparently yell spent as a substantially lower rate had been agreed upon which would affect a saving of $50, 000 000 a year to local gas consuaers4 He suggested that the Common Council officially thank • Z ! 1 c.C. -2- ?-1- 33 all of those who had graciously helped the City in the presentation of its case. On motion of Alderman Causer the I',yor and Clerk were directed to frame the proper resolution. Mary � IBrien Attorney Trerman explained the status of the Property Mary OtBrien estate property on Esty Street which was obtained by the City as a result of tax sale in 1931, and reco:riended that the Council quit—claim this property to one of the heirs who has agreed to pay all accrued taxes, penalties, fees etc. Icy Alden:an S&--m1ons: seconded by Alderman i yers: RESOLVED: that the % ayor and City Clerk be and they hereby are authorized to execute a quit claim deed for this property upon the payment of proper taxes and fees. Carried. Audit By Alderman Causer: seconded by Alderman Sari]ons: RESOLVED: that the bills approved and audited by the Finance Coni..iittee be and the saK--1e are hereby approved for pay:ieAzt. Carried. Morris Ave. The iiayor re-)orted that the Board of Public 17orks Properties requests that the Council appropriate ?$500 to cover the .cost of ::laterial to repair one of the LLorri s Avenue properties for the use of public welfare recipients;as an experi-ment. The _..ayor stated he doubted the wisdom of such an. appropriation and after some discussion the request, on .notion of Alder-man Causex was rejected. This led to t discussion of the problem of paying rent for welfare recipients, and the _utter was finally referred to the Welfare Co:�1-littee for investigation and report. Auto.-mobile Alderman Gill reported that the State had filed ?:iileage notice that henceforth it would not approve bills Allowance for mileage of privately owned cars driven for the benefit of the City at a rate'. greater than per ;:file. He stated that while the City could con- tinue to pay 60 per mile the State would figure reimburse„lent s on a basis of Vq per mile and that while it .light cost more than or even 6¢ to operate some of the cars now being driven for the benefit of the City he felt that the City should take the position that it could not afford to pay mare than the State allowance of 4-k- By Alder:.ian Gill: seconded by Alderr<ian Byers: RESOLVED: that all privately owned cars operated for the benefit of the City on which mileage has heretofore been allowed at the rate of 60 per :mile, shall, beginning ::_arch 1, 1933,be allowed a rate of only 4r2¢ per :_tile. Carried. The Clerk reported that tine Coi_i::on Council should at this time adopt a resolution designating the bank depositories.
