TOWN OF DANBY
, TOWN BOARD MINUTES
July 1 , 1965
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was held at the Town Hall at 8 P . M . Thursday , July 1 , 1965 .
Board members present : Supervisor James H . Cortright ,
Councilmen Donald Makie , Donald Barber , Justices Henry Makarainen ,
Moses Peter . Others present : Assessor William Bergman , Zoning
Officer Harry Hatfield , Highway Superintendent Chaffee and Gould
Colman , Ralph Wilbur , - Harold Bernhardt , Jay Nelson and Jack Baker .
• Minutes of the June meeting were read and approved as corrected ,
- after Supervisor Cortright called the meeting to order at 8 : 10 P . M .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . Reapportionment legislation .
2 . From R . H . Denman re : house numbering in Town .
3 . State' Traffic Commission re : truck traffic on Route 96B .
4 . Tompkins Co . Extension Service - chemical weed control .
5 , State Board of Equalization - tentative railroad ceilings .
PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
Mr . Colman commented on the Summer Recreation Program . In its
third year , there are over 100 children regist-eredc. and credited
Mr . Alfred Schoneman as being responsible for the program .
Mr . Colman would like to see a committee formed to get plans
prepared for a Town Building . Town Board felt we should wait for
report from Regional Planning Board .
Mr . Bernhardt commented on Clean- up in Danby . He said the
junk cars have accumulated faster than they could be hauled away .
COMMITTEE REPORTS -
Highway - Peter made a request from Wayne Palmer who would like
some land fill .
Zoning, - Makie reported- the 701 plan will be ready sometime in
July and to be presented prior to a public hearing of the
zoning ordinance .
Fire . - None
Cemeteries - Makarainen reported that Mr . Slights has mowed and
picked up stones in Adams Settlement Cemetery .
Insurance - Peter talked with Bill Scott of Ithaca Agency . Ithaca
Agency is binding the coverage of Town and Fire District
under General Municipal Law Requirement .
Youth - None
OLD BUSINESS
. Highway Superintendent Chaffee reported Special Improvement
Program is finished and also Brown Road .
Zoning - Zoning Officer Hatfield reported trailer moved from
- Coddington Road and building a house . Town Highway
has authority to remove Ithaca Hotel sign from Beardsley
property . Has not talked with Miller on survey .
S Planning Board - Chairman absent .
Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
Board of Assessors = Chairman Bergman reported assessment rolls are
completed and will be run between now and
July 20 . Report to state show roll as it
existed in 1964 - 65 . Approximately $ 50 , 000
assessed valuation of new Gas Pipeline to
Town . Assessors would like to have a meeting
with Town Board . Date set for July 15th at
7 P . M . and at 8 P . M . . with Danby Planning
Board .
Town Hall Study - Supervisor Cortright said it is impossible to
locate any records so will ask Professor Jacobs
to proceed with looking building over .
Jennings Pond - Supervisor Cortright said Mr . Ryan would prefer to
have his engineer look over plans before any public
hearing .

Justice Peter made the motion that Supervisor Cortright be
authorized to sign Jennings Pond license on behalf of Danby .
Seconded by Barber . 5 ' ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Councilman Makie made the motion that the clerk advertise
for a public hearing for the purpose of hearing all persons
regarding Town Expenditures on Jennings Pond . Seconded by
Makarainen . 5 ayes , 0 noes. , carried . Date set for 7 : 30 P . M . ,
August 5 , 1965 . '

NEW BUSINESS
West Danby Water Bill died in Rules Committee . Supervisor
Cortright asked about feeling of the Board
in setting up a Water District in West
Danby . Question of who votes on Bond Issue .
Supervisor Cortright will get figures from
non- profit water corporation .
Sanitary Land Fill - Supervisor talked with Ed Strobel who will
consider whether to sell land ,or not .
Bingo License - American Legion wants to play Bingo . Cortright
approached attorney - - Legion would apply for
license , then request Town Board they wish to
play Bingo . Town Board would have to hold a
public hearing .
Clean- up - Pay 3 highway men , who drove trucks , from Contingent
Fund .
2 Appointments to make - Write Chairman of. Planning Board and
Chairman of Appeals Board for, recommenda -
tions on, replacing each person whose
term expires .
House Numbering - Zoning Officer gives out house numbers . Clerk
to write Denman not necessary to house number .
Mr . Alfred Schoneman - Makie moved that Clerk write letter to
Mr . Schoneman thanking him for work in Community
•
Council on Summer Recreation Program and the
Boy Scouts delivering Town Newspaper .
Unanimously seconded . . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Resolution #4 Transfer of Funds
$ 171 . 50 from Contingent Fund to
various Budgetary Items_
Moved by Peter , seconded by Barber . Roll Call Vote : Peter - aye

Cortright - aye
5 ayes , 0 noes , carried .
Monroe Junk Yard - Zoning Officer reported Monroe will not move in
any cars and will take care of cars that ale there .
Mrs . Tresa Cortright was appreciative to Board for her letter .
Jury List - Assessors and Supervisor to meet at Clerk ' s office on
July 8 , 8 P . M . to prepare Jury List . .
Makarainen moved, to pay Highway Bills totalling $3 , 68556 #66 through
#76 as listed on Warrant #7 . Seconded by Peter : 5 ayes , 0 noes ,
carried .
Barber moved to pay General Fund Bills totalling $ 766 . 51 #50
through # 59 as listed on Warrant 7 . Seconded by Peter . 5 ayes ,
OTnoes , carried .
Peter moved to accept , the Supervisor ' s report . Seconded by Makie . . •
