HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-06-03 11 TOWN OF DANBY TOWN BOARD MINUTES June 3 , 1965 The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby was held at the Town Hall at 8 P . M . Thursday , June 3 , 1965 . Board members present : Supervisor James H . Cortright , Justices Henry Makarainen , Moses Peter , Councilmen Donald Makie , Donald Barber . Also : Edward Roberts , Highway Superintendent Chaffee , Zoning Officer Hatfield , Assessor Charles Makarainen , Fire Chief Bernhardt and Gould Coleman . Minutes of the May meeting were read and approved . COMMUNICATIONS 1 . Erwin Road Projects in Town - changes or additions to be made by July 1 , 1965 . . 2 . Koppers Company - letter on prices of products sold through Tompkins County . 3 . Commendation on care of Town cemeteries from Danby Rural Cemetery Association . 4 . Metropolitan Insurance - Employee ' s information on change of policies , etc . PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR Justice Peter asked that clerk write Mrs . Tresa Cortright , Town Historian , commending the fine report of the Town ' s history in the 150th year anniversary edition of the Ithaca Journal . Ed Roberts made comments on Monroe Junk Yard . REPORTS OF COMMITTEES , Highway - no report Zoning - Makie discussed progress of Jennings Pond and asked for a special meeting for June 17th to present project costs and to advertise for a Public Hearing in July . Also scheduled Town Road Tour at 7 : 00 P . M . , July 17 . Content of Town newspaper to include clean- up date and Jennings P ond discussion . Makie will get date of 701 Report and revision of Zoning Ordinance . Fire - no report Cemeteries - Makarainen asked about spraying cemetery next to Town Barns . Discussion followed on mowing cemeteries . Permission was given Makarainen to check on cost of this and do what is needed . Insura no report Youth -n no ce -report OLD BUSINESS Highway - Superintendent Chaffee reported 2 days ' work had been done on the Town Dump . Reported on road work progress . H ighway men employed for a year want a 100 an hour raise . 411 Pay scales were talked over in regards to 3 - p ' nvolved . Makie moved to raise the pay410 ¢ an hour fo /the following town highway employees : Neil Nelson , Allan Chaffee and Frank Chaffee . Seconded by Makarainen . Discussion followed . P eter made an ammendement to the above motion that the raise be pro - rated according to the work performed as follows : Neil Nelson from $ 2 . 00/ hr to $ 2 . 10/ hr . Allan Chaffee from $ 1 . 75/ hr . to $ 1 . 90/ hr . Frank Chaffee from $ 2 . 10/ hr . to $ 2 . 15/ hr . Seconded by Barber . Discussion followed . 5 ayes , 0 noes on motion as ammended . Carried . 12 Dick Chaffee spoke of $ 25 . 00 Town Barn furnace annual maintenance contract . Discussion followed . Tabled until next meeting to read contract . Peter talked about use of town trucks for clean -up day . Trucks are ready to use at 9 : 00 A , M . June 19 . Dick will ask drivers to work . Zoning - Hatfield reported he had talked with Tom Miller about surveying junk yard of. Bartholf - Petricola ; not done as yet . Discussion of State Law to remove old autos . Discussion on Monroe junk yard . Harry to see lawyer after checking photos . Ithaca Hotel sign discussed . and progress of removal . Will see Thaler, Monday . Planning Board - Chairman absent Appeals Board - Chairman absent Board of Assessors - Charles Makarainen reported 26 notices have been mailed to raise taxes . June 15 is Grievance Day at Town Hall . Hours 3 - 5 and 7 - 9 P . M . Tax report taken to Clerk ' s office . Discussion of county - wide appraisals . Town Hall - Supervisor reported no further report . Barber made the motion to pay General Fund Bills #45 through #49 as listed on Warrant 6 totalling $ 608 . 67 . Seconded by Makarainen . 5 ayes , 0 noes , carried . . Peter made the motion to accept the Supervisor ' s Report . Seconded by Makie . 4 ayes , 0 noes , carried . Moses Peter moved to adjourn at 10 : 00 P . M .
