SPECIAL MEETING
of the
DANBY PLANNING BOARD
May 10 , 1965
The meeting was called to order at approximately 8 : 15 PM by Chairman
Fred Thayer . Attending in addition to Mr . Thayer were : Adaitt , Darn ,
Hatfield , Geuther, Muzzy, Short , and Weitzer .
Guests at the meeting were Mr . George Van Dermark and Mr . Ed Hall. .
Mr . Van Dermark explained his plans to build a home in the center of
his 60 - acre tract , and to construct also an airstrip if he can
acquire sufficient land . He asked the board to zone the areas$
commercial . He also explained the possibility of the area being
used as a " Fly- In" for vacationing pilots , and also the possibility
of constructing a motel . Mr . Van Dermark is a pilot . Mr . Thayer
thanked him for his presentation . A discussion followed Mr . Van
Dermark ' s departure . Not knowing specifically just what would be
needed the board agreed that the project should be beneficial to
the town . It vas decided to take the matter up with the regional
planners .
Mr . Ed Hall addressed the board asking permission to place a
trailer on property . He questioned the advisability of the proposed
ordinance relative to trailers , stating that the board is overlooking
a better potential tax base . He stated that building a small home
would not be as practical and financially feasible for his father
for whom he wants the trailer . Mr . Thayer thanked Mr . Hall for
attending , and said the matter would be discussed Wednesday night ,
May 12 at the meeting with the Regional Planners . A discussion
followed Mr . Hall ' s departure . The consensus of the board is that
" to let the bar down for one " would be a mistake .
Other business : Mr . Thayer reported that the subdivision regulations,
subject to lawyer ' s approval , are ready for printing .
