TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
March 4 , 1965
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was held at the Town Hall at 8 P . M . Thursday , March 4 , 1965 .
Board members present : Supervisor Cortright , Justices Peter
and Makarainen , Councilmen Barber and Makie . Also Highway
Superintendent Chaffee and George Clarkson .
Minutes of the Febnaalyrneeting were read and approved .
• COMMUNICATIONS
1 . From Finger Lakes State Parks Commission enclosing 1964 Fact
Sheet on the Land and Water Conservation Fund Program .
2 . From Department of Audit and Control to question of Town
using Public Funds for printing and postage for a Newsletter .
3 . From Finger Lakes State Parks Commission re : License for Use
of Jenning ' s Pond .
4 . From the Society for the Genesee & the Lakes - The Thruway
Tourist Information Center 4 Year Traffic Report .
5 . Copy of letter sent Chief Traffic Engineer, in Albany re :
" School Bus Station " sign .
6 . From Voting Machine Service re : voting machine inspection .

REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Highway - None
Zoning - Makie reported Regional Planning Board is making a
complete revision of zoning ordinance .
Fire a None . Supervisor Cortright reported new fire trucks are here .
Cemeteries - None
Insurance - None
Youth - None
OLD BUSINESS
Highway - Superintendent Chaffee brought to Board ' s attention the
posting of some Town roads for weight limit . After some
discussion , Supervisor stated it worthwhile not to post
roads . Chaffee asked about renting a larger bucket
loader to work on Erwin projects . Supervisor suggested
using Newfield ' s bucket loader and will take steps .
Barber made the motion to authorize the Highway Spperintendent
to spend up to $ 500 . for small tools and equipment without
Board approval . Seconded by Makarainen . 5 ayes , 0 noes ,
motion carried .
Zoning - Officer absent . Makie reported Fair Association offer .
Planning Board - Chairman absent .
Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
Board of Assessors - Chairman absent .
Fire Liability Insurance - Peter will discuss with Bill Scott .
Ben Boynton - Did not get any land option . Expects no pay .
Town Hall Study - No report .
Highway Employees ' Request for Time and a Half - Peter reported
meeting on February 17 decided on the following reasons against
a raise :
1 . still vague question of legality .
2 . setting a precedent in the County .
3 . average income of highway employee is - reasona{/y adequate .
4 . danger of misuse of time and a half .
Alternatives :
1 . give time and ' a half off for time worked .
2 . allow this and provide shorter work week .
Discussion followed . Supervisor Cortright said the opportune time
to make this request is at budget time followed by the public
hearing .
Town Paper - Peter and Makie will purchase supplies and publish paper .

✓ oting Machine Repair - no service needed at this time .
School Bus Station Sign - wait for an answer from Albany .
Land and Water Conservation Fund Program - advise that the Town
of Danby is under taking a plan for development of a
✓ ecreational area and we would like to be advised of
the proper procedure for obtaining financial assistance
u nder Land & Water Conservation Fund Program .
L icensing Jennings Pond . - Town Board has preliminarily reviewed
license and ' -suggest the following : .
= 1 . talk with Town attorney .
2 . Community Council discuss it .
3 . propose meeting between Town Board , Parks Commission
and portion of Community Council .
4 . get cost figures on plans for pond .
5 . public hearing on proposed license and expenditures .
Coddington Road Youth Center - Mrs . Heath asked if Town would
put any money into center . More study needed .
- Troy Road Junkyard and Pipeline - Bergman is working on .
Barber moved to pay General Fund Bills #19 through #27 as listed
. on Warrant 3 totalling $230 . 27 . Seconded by Peter . 5 ayes ,.
O noes , motion carried .
P eter moved to pay Highway Fund Bills #20 through #35 as listed
on Warrant 3 totalling $ 1 , 210 . 48 . Seconded by Makie . 5 ayes ,
O noes , motion carried . .
Makie moved to accept the Supervisor ' s Report . Seconded by
Makarainen . 4 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .

Makarainen .
