Quarterly Report
October 2000 - December 2000
Newsletter:
No money was spent this quarter.
Administrative:
During this quarter the Enfield Community Council spent $300.31. This
includes postage stamps, carpet cleaning of the community building and a
repair of the outside entryway - downstairs - of the community building.
Summer Camp:
No money was spent this quarter. We are now starting to plan for Summer
Camp. Due to the shortage of lifeguards, last summer,a lifeguard training
proposal has been written by the TCYB to have Newfield, Enfield and Danby
sponsor a lifeguard training course to be offered at the Ithaca College Pool.
This proposal is still in the works and not yet confirmed. This would
guarantee us a lifeguard for our Summer Camp 2001.
Teen Program (This includes MJF - Youth Employment & Enrichment
Program)
During this quarter we spent $1,423.12 on our Teen Program, $1,355.71 on
our MJF - Youth Employment Program, and $1,372.33 on our Enrichment
Program. Please find attached Shannon McSurely's detailed Program Reports
for October, November and December, 2000 and Cooperative Extension's
Statement of Operations for December 2000.
Sponsored Programs: Enfield Elementary School
E.C.C. purchased 45 Basketball Jerseys for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
basketball teams. The cos%was $585.00. The cost was a little higher than
usual because the jerseys are of better quality and will last for several years.
The kids will turn them in at the end of the season.
Thank Yo. ►

October
Enfield Youth Program
Manager's Report
for
ECC Meeting -11/13/00
a summary of the programs from Oct. mailing ,a copy of the November calendar ,future plans
and a description of the Enfield Eco -Foresters ,and other program happenings follow.
• The Enfield Eco -Foresters are a newly formed group, learning sustainable forestry practices by
actually doing them. Black Locust Initiative, a local, nonprofit organization of environmental
educators, has been delivering interactive programs to "kids of all ages" for the last 20 years
and has several exciting projects that we are lucky to be able to take advantage of. These
opportunities include: replanting a recently logged area at the Arnot Forest in Newfield,
involvement in the site plan process and execution of that plan @ the GrassRoots Campground
in Jacksonville, and possibly co -managing a 3 acre area of the only National Forest in NY.
Since the recent replanting at the Arnot Forest (11/4), many kids have expressed interest in
helping to finish the job. Lots of educational subjects and expert presenters have been
integrated into these ongoing programs. Topics and related activities include environmental
ethics and law, forest evaluation, diorama construction, , soil science( -structure, density,
fertility, pH , calculating amendments), harvesting carefully chosen trees using draft horses,
diversified replanting and protection of logged forests, conservation by design, engineering-,
pavilion construction, wood crafting etc. The goals of this program include: community service,
environmental stewardship, ecological awareness, exposure to many types of worthwhile
careers, listening skills and following directions, group dynamics and cooperation, discovering
creative talents, commitment to a cause ( joining the movement against destructive commercial
logging practices), building confidence in writing skills and construction abilities, a chance at a
micro -enterprise- logging & milling a designated part of the National Forest and possibly
having a bin at a local lumber yard- marketing' PHEW
