During the spring a series of meetings were held to discuss upcoming state registration requirements and the impact these would have on the program. It was decided that the parent group would evaluate program options and in June voted to invite the YMCA of Tompkins County to take over leadership of this program. In the fall of 1999 Vera Howe Stait became the site coordinator. The program has expanded enrollment numbers and days of operation. United Way funds are available for scholarships. Newsletter The Council is responsible for the production of three newsletters each year. The newsletter is intended as a way to provide the Enfield Community with updated Focal news and activity schedules, including summer camp registration forms. Earl Kaiser served as the Editor until December of 1999. Summer Camp — Summer Camp is a six week summer program operated at the Community Center and operates from 9:00 to 2:00. Before and after camp care available for working parents. Programs include nature, swimming, sports, arts and crafts, and drama. There are also a variety of field trips and special days offered. This year the camp director was also providing oversight to the after summer school camp operated at the Enfield School. CIT Program This Counselor in Training program provides an opportunity for younger teens to receive specific training and work along side adult counselors during the summer. The combination of workshops and hands on experience provides an excellent background for young people hoping to become counselors, when they are 16. In 1999 the counselors worked at the camps at the Community center and at the Elementary school. Each young person completing the CIT program received a stipend. Teen Program: In early 1999 the ECC contracted with Cooperative Extension for a 20 hours per week Program Manager to design and operate teen programs and to set up family enrichment trips. This years activities included but were not limited to; Club Tuesday, Green Masters, Supersitters, family trips included, a trip to the Sky Chiefs Baseball game in Syracuse, and a special Magic Night with Mike Stanley. In September the ECC expanded the contract with Extension to 30 hours per week and hired Shannon McSurely as the new program manager. Programs have included a Monday Makers Club, Friday crafts activities at Dewitt school, Excursions to the Science Center, Robertson Museum, Syracuse Zoo, and hiking at Treman Park. The Outing program was offered with 12 Enfield youth participating in outdoor adventure activities meant to increase self confidence and group skills. A special highlight of the Teen program this year were two Teen Dances organized by a group of local teens, supported by local adults, held at the Community Building. Recreation Partnershiu - The Town of Enfield is a member of the Recreation Partnership. This is a partnership between the outlying municipalities and City of Ithaca. Enfield pays a fee for this membership, which enables youth living in the town to participate in the recreation programs offered at the Ithaca Youth Bureau. Basket Ball & Vollev Ball — These activities are operated by community volunteers and take place at the Enfield Elementary School. These activities are offered once a week and are open to older teens and adults. Summary of 1999 Programs Enfield Community Council Numbers reported reflect unduplicated numbers for each program Programs are offered in a variety of ways from one time meetings to series of meetings covering several weeks . Youth may have participated in more than one program.
