TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
February 4 , 1965
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
was held at the Town Hall at 8 P . M . Thursday , February 4 , 1965 .
Board members present : 'Supervisor Cortright , Justices Peter
r� and Makarainen , Councilmen Barber and Makie . Others present :
Zoning Officer Hatfield , Assessor Charles Makarainen , Gordon
Roberts and Wendell Bryce .
• Minutes of the January meeting were read and approved .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . Tompkins County Department of Health re : Municipal Refuse
Collection and Disposal .
2 . State Board of Equalization & Assessment re : Program of making
Statewide Surveys of Real Property Values every Two Years .
3 . Laberge & Associates re : FinancialAssistance for Planning and
Constructing Sewerage Facilities .
4 . Assemblywoman Constance Cook re : Legislation .
5 . Ithaca Agency re Filing Claims made against Town of Danby .
6 . Thaler & Thaler re : Town of Danby vs . Barthoif , et al .
PRIVILEGE OF FLOOR
Justice Peter made a request for a permanent change of the
Town Board meetings , due to conflict with Tompkins County Magistrates
Association . .
A representative from Cayuga Signs of Ithaca asked the Board ' s
permission to put a Wonderland Motel sign on the Grove property on
D anby Road , to replace an existing sign . Zoning Officer Hatfield
answered that this would be a non - conforming use and cannot be
changed . Supervisor Cortright suggested applying for a permit
through Zoning Officer .
Zoning. Officer Hatfield reported Tompkins County Fair Association
has an option on land in Danby and wants to establish fairgrounds .
Supervisor asked Makie to make this known to the Planning Board .
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
H ighway - None
Zoning - Councilman Makie reported sub - division intent is to set
up a system where someone may put in one lot , then two
or three , but when • getting to four , then subdivide - -
discourages building up road frontage with no access
to interior .
Fire - None
- Cemeteries - None
Insurance - Peter reported he and Makarainen had met to consider
proposal of Nationwide Insurance as compared to Ithaca
Agency with figure quotations . The feeling of the .
Board is to continue the Town Insurance Program with
• Ithaca Agency .
Youth - None

Zoning - None
P lanning Board - Chairman absent .
Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
B oard of Assessors - Charles Makarainen reported the assessors have
gone over the- tax maps .
Land Option - No report from Beh Boynton .
Town Hall Study - No report . .
Highway Employees ' Request - to be studied at an Executive Meeting ,
February 17 , 8 P . M .

NEW BUSINESS
Supervisor Cortright stated the equalization rate is 46 % .
RESOLUTION # 1 FILING REPORT WITH TOWN CLERK
AND PUBLISHING REPORT
Makie made the motion , upon request of Supervisor , to extend
filing the Supervisor ' s report with the Town Clerk .
Seconded by Barber . 5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
RESOLUTION #2 PERMIT & LICENSING DANBY OR JENNINGS POND
Motion made by Peter , seconded by Makarainen .
5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
RESOLUTION #3 JENNINGS POND AREA TO BECOME A TOMPKINS
COUNTY SOIL CONSERVATION DISTRICT AND
THE SUPERVISOR BE AUTHORIZED TO SIGN
AGREEMENT
Motion made by Makie , seconded by Barber .
5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried . .
Councilman Barber made the motion to change the Town Board
meetings to the first Thursday of each month . Seconded by
Makie . 5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
Town Paper & Calendar - Justice Peter quoted costs of preparing .
Supervisor Cortright will check with Department of Audit and
Control .
Makarainen made the motion to pay General Fund Bills #8
through #18 totalling $394 . 48 as listed on Warrant 2 . Seconded
by Barber . 5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
P eter made the motion to pay Highway Fund Bills #11 through
# 19 totalling $ 381 . 38 as listed on Warrant 2 . Seconded by Barber .
5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
P eter moved to accept the Supervisor ' s report . Seconded
by Barber . 4 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
P eter made the motion to adjourn at 10 : 50 P . M . Seconded
by Barber .
