TOWN OF DANBY
TOWN BOARD MINUTES
January 7 , 1965
The regular meeting of the Town Board of the Town of Danby
w as held at the Town Hall at 8 P . M . , January 7 , 1965 .
B oard members present : Supervisor Cortright , Justices Peter
and Makarainen , Councilmen Barber and Makie . Others present :
H ighway Superintendent Chaffee , Harold Bernhardt , Frank Chaffee ,
N eil Nelson , Mrs . Makarainen and Insurance Broker William Scott .
III Minutes were read and approved of the December meeting and
of the Audit Meeting .
COMMUNICATIONS
1 . From Thaler to Supervisor re : Town of Danby vs . Bartholf .
2 . Copy of letter from Ithaca Agency to Finger Lakes Park Commission
re : Permit for Ice Skating on Jennings Pond .
3 . From State Department of Health to Joint Municipal Survey Committee
re : Comprehensive Sewerage Study , South Tompkins County .
4 , From Chairman , Tompkins County Rural Resource Development Committee
to Supervisor re : The Acquisition of Land for Public Recreation
& Park Facilities under New York State .

P RIVILEGE OF FLOOR
N one from the Board . Mrs . Makarainen asked who notifies persons
in Danby who do not change numbers on their houses . Harold Bernhardt
w ill refer this to the Danby Fire Department .
N eil Nelson spoke in behalf of the town highway men to request
time and a half pay for all work over 45 hours a week . Town Board
w ill study request .
William Scott of Ithaca Agency was present to obtain signatures
on claims indicating a Town Audit was held . Discussion followed of
combining insurance on Danby Fire District which the Board approved .
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
H ighway - None
Zoning - Councilman Makie gave a report written on the physical
criteria of Jennings Pond . He also read a letter from
Dr . Bryce re : swimming facilities at Danby Pond . Makie
will attend the Regional Planning Board Meeting January 13 .
Fire - None
Cemeteries - Makarainen reported several people have made favorable
comments on appearance of cemeteries .
Insurance - None
Youth - None
OLD BUSINESS
Highway - Superintendent Chaffee expressed being in agreement to the
town highway employees ' request for time and a half for all
work over 45 hours a week .
Zoning - Zoning Officer absent .
Planning Board - Chairman absent .
• Appeals Board - Chairman absent .
Assessors - None present .
Subdivision a No report .
II Land Option - Supervisor Cortright reported no report yet from Ben
Boynton .
Town Hall Study - No report .

Zoning and Building Officer - Peter made the motion to
reappoint Harry Hatfield . Seconded by Makarainen .

Chairman of Assessors - Barber made the motion to appoint
William Bergman . Seconded by Makarainen .

Highway Superintendent Chaffee recommended the following
wages for the highway employees :
Frank Chaffee $ 2 . 10/ hr . Neil Nelson $2 . 00 / hr .
Allan Chaffee $ 1 . 75/ hr . David Hornbrook $ 1 . 75 / hr .
Makie moved to pay these wages . Seconded by Barber

Supervisor Cortright asked the feeling of the Board on the
request of Clarence French in West Danby to have a street light
installed on Station Road near the Hine residence . The Board ' s
answer is no .
Peter made the motion to pay Highway Bills #1 through #10 1
totalling $ 1 , 353 . 11 as listed on Warrant 1 . Seconded by
Makarainen . 5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
Barber made the motion to pay General Fund Bills #1 through
#7 totalling $ 1 , 707 . 49 as listed on Warrant 1 . Seconded by
Makarainen , 5 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
Makie moved to accept the Supervisor ' s report . Seconded
by Barber . 4 ayes , 0 noes , motion carried .
Highway Fund and General Fund Books were signed by Town
Board .
Peter made the motion to adjourn at 10 : 30 P . M . Seconded
