Dear Ulysses Community Member,
The Town of Ulysses has reached a major milestone in its effort to update the Comprehensive Plan —the guiding document that will
shape our community's future for the next 20 years. Here's a look at where we've been,where we are now,and how you can make
your voice heard.The current DRAFT of the plan is available here.
Does reading the entire plan feel daunting?The Executive Summary(pg.7-21) is great for getting an overview of the various topics
covered in the plan.
WHAT IS THE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?
The Comprehensive Plan is one of the town's most important documents. It defines our community's shared vision,goals,and
policies,and sets the framework for future public and private investments in land use,natural resources,and economic
development.The current plan was adopted in 2009,and this update—titled Ulysses 2025-2045—will chart the town's course for
the next two decades.
Note that this plan covers the Town of Ulysses only.The Village of Trumansburg has its own jurisdictional authority and its own
separate plan.
A REMARKABLE COMMUNITY EFFORT
The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee(CPSC) —a broad cross-section of community members appointed by the Town Board
— began its work in April 2023.Over nearly three years,the committee engaged the public in an extensive and inclusive process that
included:
•40 public meetings
• 12 public hearings
•4 focus groups
• 3 open houses
•A community survey widely distributed between December 2024 and March 2025
On March 25,2026,the CPSC voted to transmit its draft Comprehensive Plan to the Town Board —a significant achievement
representing years of dedicated community work.
On April 14,2026,the Town Board accepted the draft from CPSC,thanked the committee members for their incredible service,and
officially dissolved the committee.
WHERE THINGS STAND NOW
On April 14,2026,the Town Board formally initiated the State Environmental Quality Review(SEAR) process,as required before a
comprehensive plan can be adopted.As part of this review,the Town Board is currently seeking feedback from interested and

involved agencies,including(but not limited to):
•Tompkins County Department of Planning and Sustainability
• NYS Department of Environmental Conservation
•Trumansburg Central School District
• Ithaca City School District
• Ulysses Planning Board
• Ulysses Board of Zoning Appeals
This interagency review is a standard but important step to ensure that the plan's potential environmental impacts are fully
considered.
UPCOMING PUBLIC HEARINGS—MARK YOUR CALENDAR
The Town Board has scheduled a public hearing on the draft Comprehensive Plan for:
Tuesday, May 12,2026 at 7pm
The hearing is expected to continue at the following Town Board regular meeting:
® Tuesday, May 26,2026 at 7pm
Both meetings will be held at Ulysses Town Hall, 10 Elm Street,Trumansburg,and will also be accessible via Zoom.Check the town
calendar at town ofulyssesnygov for agenda and connection details.
HOW TO SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS
The Ulysses Town Board wants to hear from you.There are several ways to participate:
•Submit written comments at any time before 5pm on May 12 to the Town Clerk at clerk townofulyssesnygov or at Town Hall(10
Elm St.,Trumansburg NY 14886)
•Speak at the scheduled public hearings on May 12 or May 26
•Address the Town Board during the privilege of the floor at any regular Town Board meeting
After gathering input from the public and the involved agencies,the Town Board will deliberate on any changes to the draft before
moving toward final adoption.
