Dare I say.....happy spring! I'm looking forward to seeing folks tomorrow at the State of the Town (9-11am)at the Fire House,snacks and coffee to be provided. We have a remote option if you prefer to join in your pjs,and it will also be available on the Town's YouTube page next week. Trumansburg Little League will be holding a chicken BBQ right next door starting at 11:30am, if you want to make a full morning out of it. Next Tuesday,the Town Board will be holding its first meeting of April,and it is a busy agenda!The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee(CPSC)has officially passed along their draft of the plan,and I want to personally extend a huge THANK YOU to the committee members who served nearly 3 years.(All drafts,including the most recent,are available here.) In that three years,the CPSC held 40 public meetings, 12 public hearings,4 focus groups,3 open houses,and gathered public feedback in a community survey over a three-month period(December 2024-March 2025).They reviewed and shared public drafts of their working document in July and October 2025,as well as in February and March 2026.This amounted to thousands of volunteer hours. I'm also grateful to the hundreds of members of the community who participated in the survey,focus groups,open houses,and public hearings,and I believe the document is much better for all of this participation. Balancing a diversity of needs---housing, agriculture,open space,conservation,recreation---is very challenging,and I appreciate the dedication of the committee members and community for sharing their opinions. There continues to be opportunities for the public to share their feedback.The Town Board will be scheduling a public hearing and undertaking necessary environmental review starting at the Tuesday meeting,as we work to adopt a comprehensive plan that is by the people of Ulysses,and for the people of Ulysses(and everything that lives or exists in the town).Comments can always be sent to clerk@townofuly.asesny.gov. Finally,don't forget a clear sign of spring:the Ulysses Philomathic Library Book Sale on April 16-19! Perhaps you'll find Town Clerk Carissa's recently enjoyed novel, "Caleb's Crossing" by Geraldine Brooks?Or maybe my current"slow but steady" read, "Wolf Hall" by Hilary Mantel?Or a book I can recite by heart:"Little Blue Truck"? For schedule and hours,visit https://www.trumansburglibrary.org/book-sales COUNTYWIDE MINIMUM WAGE STUDY: Tompkins County has launched a minimum wage study(through Dec.2026)to explore the potential impacts of adopting a local law establishing a countywide minimum wage higher than the State minimum of$16 per hour. Rural Businesses are invited to share their thoughts on Tuesday,April 14 at 6:30pm at Lansing Town Hall,29 Auburn Road, Lansing NY. SENATOR LEA WEBB AND TOMPKINS COUNTY WHOLE HEALTH TO HOST PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK COMMUNITY OFFICE HOURS: New York State Senator Lea Webb and Tompkins County Whole Health will host"Community Office Hours"on April 14,2026,from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Tompkins County Whole Health building,located at 55 Brown Rd in Ithaca. Senator Webb's constituent services team will be on hand to assist the community with issues they are experiencing,including unemployment,housing, healthcare,utility bills, EBT/WIC/SNAP,and more.Tompkins County Whole Health will have an open house showcasing various programs and services that are provided through their health department. NYS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION BEGINS ROAD WORK ALONG ROUTES 13,34,96.79.AND 89 IN THE CITY OF ITHACA: The NYSDOT will repave 12.6 miles of roadway in the City of Ithaca in the coming weeks on portions of State Routes 13,34,96,79, and 89. According to the NYSDOT, resurfacing work will be done on portions of Meadow and Fulton Streets,also known as Route 13 and 34, and on West Buffalo Street(Route 96). In addition to resurfacing,the project will include traffic signal improvements, lane configuration changes,and sidewalk upgrades to help ease congestion and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians. Drainage improvements will also be done. It's anticipated the entire project will be completed by July 21st. UPCOMING MEETINGS/HEARINGS: State of the Town-Sat.4/11,9-11am Board of Zoning Appeals-Wed.4/15 at 7pm ANNUAL BURN BAN&FIRE DANGER MAP: The annual burn ban is in effect through May 14. Open burning is prohibited in NYS during this time EXCEPT FOR: • Camp fires or any other outdoor fires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length,width or diameter • Small cooking fires • Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires and disposal of flags or religious items in a small-sized fire is allowed, if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. Only charcoal or dry,clean,untreated or unpainted wood can be burned. Fires cannot be left unattended and must be fully extinguished. For more information,visit https: dec.nygov/environmental-protection/air-qualityLpen-burning TOMPKINS COUNTY DISPATCHERS HONORED: The Department of Emergency Response(DoER)will recognize April 12-18 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (NPSTW).Sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials(APCO)International and observed annually, NPSTW honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls,dispatch emergency professionals and equipment,and render life-saving assistance. "Under adverse circumstances,the cohesiveness of our dispatchers on duty that day demonstrated their professionalism and skill in handling an unfolding tragedy while making every effort to protect lives of first responders and those souls lost."
