For a little bookish fun,this quote felt very timely during this wild weather week: "It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:when it is summer in the light,and winter in the shade." (Charles Dickens,Great Expectations) There's a lot to keep up with at the Town!Summer camp slots filled quickly this year,and we're providing camp for 102 campers.The registration process was simplified this year to make registration easier,and we still have spaces available for before and after care if your kiddo needs to extend their day. Adult recreation spots are still open for pickleball,volleyball and indoor soccer,so come join the fun! More information available here. Next Tuesday, March 24,finds us back at Town Hall for our second meeting of the month.Our Highway Superintendent Scott Stewart will be presenting on his spending plans for 2026, including the roads intended to be resurfaced this year.The board will also be discussing a process moving forward for filing a temporary vacancy on the Town Board.This position will be available only through the end of 2026,per NYS Election Law.The full board packet is available here. On the following day,Wednesday, March 25,the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will be gathering and continuing a public hearing process that started last September. I would like to extend my gratitude to all the members of the committee who've been serving for about 3%years.Thank you for volunteering your time to Ulysses.Thank you also to the hundreds of people who participated in our multi-month community survey, round tables,open houses,and public hearings.The latest version of the Comprehensive Plan is available here. The Ethics Advisory Board was established in 1997 in accordance with New York State General Municipal Law§808,which authorizes counties to create boards that provide advisory opinions to municipal officers and employees on ethical matters. Under the Tompkins County Ethics Code,the Board consists of five members appointed by the County Legislature,including one legislator. "Public trust in government depends on transparency and accountability,"said TCEAB Chair Iris Packman. "The Ethics Advisory Board plays an important role in helping ensure our local government operates with integrity.We encourage residents who are committed to ethical public service and strengthening public confidence in government to consider applying." Interested applicants must submit an Advisory Board Application by April 15.Applications are available from the County Legislature Office, located in the Governor Daniel D.Tompkins Building(Old Courthouse), 121 E.Court Street in Ithaca,with entrance on the DeWitt Park side.Applications may also be downloaded,along with additional information about advisory boards,from the County's website. BOARD/COMMITTEE VACANCIES: Tom Knipe's resignation from the Town Board has left a vacancy.The current Town Board may appoint someone to serve for the remainder of the year;and the position will be on the November ballot with a term of 1/1/27-12/31/28. Open burning is prohibited in NYS during this time EXCEPT FOR: • Camp fires or any other outdoor fires less than 3 feet in height and 4 feet in length,width or diameter • Small cooking fires • Ceremonial or celebratory bonfires and disposal of flags or religious items in a small-sized fire is allowed, if it is not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. Only charcoal or dry,clean,untreated or unpainted wood can be burned. The next training session in Tompkins County is scheduled for Tuesday,March 24th at 6:00pm at the Danby Community Church, 1859 Danby Road and will be led by the New York National Guard working with experts from the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services(DHSES). Each family that attends will receive one NYS Disaster Preparedness Kit.The training is free of charge,but registration is required at:www.prepare.nygov.
