TOWN & COUNTY PROPERTY TAX DEADLINE:
Monday, March 2 is the deadline to pay your property tax bill with a 1% penalty. From March 3- 31, a 2%
penalty is added. Payments must be received or postmarked March 31 or earlier.

PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION APPLICATION DEADLINE:
The deadline to apply for property tax exemptions is Mareh 2 MARCH 1. (Apologies for lost week's error)
Exemptions are available to income-qualifying seniors, disabled persons, veterans, and volunteer

According to Legislator Rachel Ostlund, the legislature adopted a local law increasing the maximum low-
income senior property tax exemption from 50%to 65% under the New York State Real Property Tax
Law. The change applies to qualifying older adults with annual incomes below $33,500 and adjusts
exemption tiers for those earning under$35,500.
Impact: $2.36 on a median house's yearly County tax bill (median house = assessed at $300,000). The
Town of Ulysses also recently passed a local law doing the same.

TOMPKINS COUNTY LEGISLATOR REPORT:
From Legislator Ostlund:
At our last Legislature meeting, we spent a great deal of time learning and talking about the NYSEG rate
case. Evidentiary hearings are currently underway in Albany, and the final rates have not yet been
announced, although NYSEG is asking for a proposed residential delivery rate increase of 35%for electric
and 39.4%for gas. These rate increases would likely only be for one year, and NYSEG plans to file
another rate case this summer. Please see the attached County report for more details, including the
many reasons why Tompkins County is opposed to these rate increases. As always, please reach out

DENTAL STUDY FOR $35 GIFT CARD:
In collaboration with Tompkins County Whole Health, a team of Cornell faculty and students are looking
for Tompkins County parents and caregivers of children under 18 years of age to participate in interviews
about seeking and/or receiving oral health care for themselves and their children. We are looking for
caregivers with a range of insurance status (e.g., Medicaid, private insurance, other insurance, no
insurance.
Interviews will take place over Zoom and will take between 30-45 minutes.

ANNUAL"I VOTED"AND "FUTURE VOTER" STICKER CONTESTS:
The Tompkins County Board of Elections (BOE) is inviting young artists across Tompkins County to make
their mark on democracy through its annual Election Sticker Design Contests. This year's theme
celebrates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, giving students a
chance to honor America's birthday with bold, creative designs in red, white, and blue. The BOE
encourages all eligible students to participate and help make America's 250th birthday celebration one
that truly reflects the creativity of Tompkins County.
