HomeMy WebLinkAboutCAC Minutes - March 27, 2017Danby Conservation Advisory Council Meeting – March 27, 2017 –
Minutes
Members present: Matt Ulinski (chair), Mary Woodsen, Don Schaufler,
Joel Gagnon, Dan Klein
Non‐members present: CJ Randall (Danby Town Planner), Ronda
Roaring, Ruth Sherman
Mary had several conservation easement books for show and tell.
Mary and others have some ideas of people to come speak about
estate planning and will explore further.
Ronda spoke on privilege of the floor. She suggested we follow up on
people who have volunteered for the CAC in the past. She mentioned
that Nancy Medsker once expressed interest in being a steward for the
Deputron Hollow easements. Ronda also suggested we be specific
when asking for volunteers.
Ronda also asked that we look at mosses, fungi, and other smaller
species when we do our natural resources inventory (NRI).
Joel moved the January and February minutes. Mary seconded.
Approved unanimously.
Planning and Zoning Report
CJ said she will circulate the Planning Board packets to us in the
future. In order to better align with the Planning Board schedule, we
will consider changing our meeting date. The Planning Board meets the
third Thursday of the month. Ideally, the CAC meeting would be a week
or two in advance of the Planning Board meeting. Matt will send out a
Doodle Poll to see what other meeting times might work.
NRI subcommittee is Anne Klingensmith, Leslie Connors, Bill Evans,
Joel Gagnon, Gio Kloppel, Don Schaufler, and Anne Stork.
CJ will circulate the draft solar zoning regulations for the Town.
Ruth Sherman applied to join the CAC.
Ric Dietrich has suggested the CAC might get a secretary (paid) to
take minutes at the CAC meetings. We feel that we don’t need this
service at this time, but are appreciative of the thought.
Rack Card
Mary presented her updated version.
Matt moved, Joel seconded, a motion to authorize Mary to do final
edits on the rack card (suggestions welcome) and get 100 printed
(approximate cost, $40). Passed unanimously.
Easement Template
Mary and Joel made some changes. Some changes were in the order
of the items in the template. Some changes were in the tone.
We will send the revised version to Guy Krogh, Town Attorney, for
his approval.
Easement Promotion
Matt contacted the Danby Seniors and may do a presentation in
June. (1st Thursday in June, 6:00?).
Management Plans
We still need to decide on hunting policy and invasive species
management. Joel, Don, and CJ will work on the West Danby Water
District parcel management plan.
Town Email Addresses
Those that don’t have one need to get one.
We had a discussion about how to market and talk about what we
do in order to appeal to landowners in Danby. The “Emerald Necklace”
is an example of a term that provides a nice image for people. “Rural
character” is term that seems to appeal to almost everyone in Danby.
We also discussed having a website. We might look for a local
person who would volunteer or work inexpensively to construct and
maintain a website.
