Chestnut tree talk – should CAC sponsor it?
Issue of genetically modified chestnut vs. non-modified – have a talk with people
representing both sides?
Jenny: sponsor a whole series of talks that have to do with land management
and the philosophy of conservation
Don: mowing regimens, drainage, vernal ponds, wildlife, etc. info for conservation
purposes that would go to new landowners in Danby – real estate transactions
are available in the Ithaca Journal if we want to identify new landowners.
Would Danby Community Council be interested in sponsoring the chestnut talk?
Bill will bring it up.
Motion: We do not want to sponsor chestnut talk – passed 5 – 0 – 1 (Mary
abstained)
Hunting policy on town land – is Town assuming liability if we allow hunting on
Town land? Ric Dietrich asked Association of Towns – didn’t get a clear answer.
Guy Krogh, Town Attorney also gave unclear answer.
Leslie Connors is going to Association of Towns Annual Meeting in February. Dan
will ask her to talk to a lawyer there if she can.
Further discussion about the management plan for the West Danby Water
District land and managing for old growth or logging. Dan wants to know how
much money might be gotten from logging that piece. CJ pointed out that logging
would require a SEQR review.
Joel is hoping to have a management plan done in the next month. Jenny
suggested doing 2 plans, one with old growth, one with logging, and present both
of those to the Town Board. Don, Jenny, and Joel will work on it.
CJ will be asking us for assistance with natural resources inventory this year.
Discussion of who gets which emails, especially if they have to do with
confidential subjects such as real estate transactions. We will try to get
clarification on this. Maybe we should develop a confidentiality statement for the
CAC.
Joel will work on a Danby Area News article about the value of conservation
easements.
Joel moved to go into executive session to discuss potential real estate
transaction, Jenny seconded. Vote was unanimous. Into executive session at 8:15.
Out of executive session at 8:55. No action was taken.
Adjourned at 8:55 ½.
