HomeMy WebLinkAboutCAC Minutes - January 25, 2016Danby Conservation Advisory Council Meeting – DRAFT Minutes January 25, 2016 Members Present: Joel Gagnon, Mary Woodsen, Bill Evans, Jenny Caldwell, Don Schaufler, Dan Klein (minutes taker) Non-Members Present: Ronda Roaring, Jack Miller, CJ Randall, 2 packages of Moon Pies Chestnut tree talk – should CAC sponsor it? Issue of genetically modified chestnut vs. non-modified – have a talk with people representing both sides? Jenny: sponsor a whole series of talks that have to do with land management and the philosophy of conservation Don: mowing regimens, drainage, vernal ponds, wildlife, etc. info for conservation purposes that would go to new landowners in Danby – real estate transactions are available in the Ithaca Journal if we want to identify new landowners. Would Danby Community Council be interested in sponsoring the chestnut talk? Bill will bring it up. Motion: We do not want to sponsor chestnut talk – passed 5 – 0 – 1 (Mary abstained) Hunting policy on town land – is Town assuming liability if we allow hunting on Town land? Ric Dietrich asked Association of Towns – didn’t get a clear answer. Guy Krogh, Town Attorney also gave unclear answer. Leslie Connors is going to Association of Towns Annual Meeting in February. Dan will ask her to talk to a lawyer there if she can. Further discussion about the management plan for the West Danby Water District land and managing for old growth or logging. Dan wants to know how much money might be gotten from logging that piece. CJ pointed out that logging would require a SEQR review. Joel is hoping to have a management plan done in the next month. Jenny suggested doing 2 plans, one with old growth, one with logging, and present both of those to the Town Board. Don, Jenny, and Joel will work on it. CJ will be asking us for assistance with natural resources inventory this year. Discussion of who gets which emails, especially if they have to do with confidential subjects such as real estate transactions. We will try to get clarification on this. Maybe we should develop a confidentiality statement for the CAC. Joel will work on a Danby Area News article about the value of conservation easements. Joel moved to go into executive session to discuss potential real estate transaction, Jenny seconded. Vote was unanimous. Into executive session at 8:15. Out of executive session at 8:55. No action was taken. Adjourned at 8:55 ½.
