Danby Conservation Advisory Council
Minutes of Regular Meeting September 28, 2015

The Meeting was opened at 7:05 PM
Public Comments/Privilege of the Floor
None
Minutes
The June minutes were approved with additions and corrections as noted. Jenny moved, Joel
seconded. Joel, Don, Jenny, Mary and Bill approved. Matt abstained.
The July minutes were approved with additions and corrections as noted. Matt moved, Mary
seconded. Joel, Don, Matt, and Mary approved. Bill and Jenny abstained.
The August minutes were approved with additions and corrections as noted. Joel moved, Matt
seconded. Joel, Mary, Matt and Don approved. Bill and Jenny abstained.
Matt will post on Town Website.
Discussion
Management Plan
Mary – Dan suggested we manage for old growth. This can be complicated. Could we use property to
bring hemlocks back? Joel suggested managing for diversity instead.
Water district property: Joel, see what FLLT has put together for Lindsay Parsons. Don volunteered
to talk to them. Also we need to talk to water district themselves. Ronda Roaring will send another contact
for FLLT to Don.
Deputron Hollow: Bill: look at this for the 300 year plan. Ronda suggested that we use water district
to show off for potential easement donors.
General: How often to review the management plan. Don: need to define what diversity means.
Jenny start with a hands off management plan and then revisit. Ronda asked about hunting

Jenny: sent compiled list of plants out this afternoon. What is purpose of list: for easements, for
management plan. Can you use list for compiling list of species in other areas? Can you have keystone species?
Easement Letter
CJ (absent) reviewing letter. CJ is getting Jake’s software to pick 30 of the most appropriate properties
to send letter too.
Action Item: work on editing and getting lists to vote on at next meeting.
Carbon Tax Resolution
Joel discussed what a Carbon Tax was and how it works. We would be part of growing group of orgs
asking for this to happen. Joel would like CAC to adopt this as part of Citizens Climate Lobby. (Resolution
attached).
Motion:
Motion to accept the resolution as amended below. Joel moved. Mary Seconded. All approved.
Other
Joel need to think about getting stewards for easements. Ronda put a blurb in Danby News to solicit
help. Jenny: create an infrastructure to support this. Bill Evans: FLLT has a form for this.
How do we respond to the request about Danby trails (via CJ)? Do we help, how do we help do this?
What is our role in this?
Bill Evans: Can town buy another copy of The Conservation Easement Handbook? Data on
easement tax rebates:
Action Item: Matt to post tax document on website.
Action Item: Bill Evans will contact Assessment for easement data.
