Danby Conservation Advisory Council
Minutes of Regular Meeting March 23, 2015

The Meeting was opened at 7:05 pm
Public Comments/Privilege of the floor
There were two residents in attendance to discuss the Unity House on Nelson Road. They were
informed that this was not the correct meeting for the discussion. However, the CAC and the residents did
have a discussion about the situation. It was recommend that they attend the Danby Town Board meeting.
Rhonda asked about a way to distribute photos of properties to board members, for instance with
dropbox or other web tool. Matt asked that we clarify what we want to do. Joel suggested talking to Pamela
Goddard, the Town Clerk, about ways to do this.
Action Items: Matt will talk to Pamela about ways to do this and come back to the group with
recommendations.
Minutes
Dan moved to accept the February minutes. Jenny seconded. All approved.
Discussion
Dan is not going to be here next month.
Open Space Inventory
Jake Brenner came to discuss the Open Space Inventory (OSI) Tool. He distributed a packet of
information on the tool. Jake discussed the history of the OSI. The OSI was one of three things CAC was
mandated to do. Jake created it with some of his students at IC. Data was gathered from Danby Code
Enforcement and variables defined for targeting land for easements. The OSI uses existing databases,
including CEAs (which map to the UNAs). Jake walked the group through the inventory and how input was
weighted and used to define target properties for easements. Future steps to expand model would require
creation of new databases of important aspects. One option would be to have landowner’s assess their own
properties for better classification. There are manuals for landowners to do this.
Dan: can we get addresses from targeted properties. Jake: doable, can query model for tax id and get
addresses from that.
Dan: is AG land in it. Jake: No, but will look into if this can be added.

Matt: can you change weights. Jake: Yes. Town will have the program – Arch GIS.
Jake: decided not to publish for general public since it required understanding of model to be useful
and not create concerns.
Discuss Membership
Don Schaufler has applied to be on the CAC.
Motion that the CAC advises the Town Board to appoint Don Schaufler to the CAC. Dan moved.
Joel seconded. All approved.
Tree Walk
April 18th at 11AM at Danby Park. Don Schaufler will lead. Should be in the Danby News. Post on
fire station sign. Dan will contact Don about location (Danby Park?).
Current Easement Update
Matt updated on Palmer and Melchen easements.
Rack Card
Jenny showed rack card. Edits and comments should be sent to Jenny by Monday 3/30.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
The next meeting is on April 27, 2015 at 7:00PM.
