Danby Conservation Advisory Council
Minutes of Regular Meeting December 28, 2015

The Meeting was opened at 7:00 PM
Public Comments/Privilege of the Floor
Ronda Roaring questioned why the minutes were not posted in a timely manner. She said they have to
be posted by two weeks according to Robert Freeman.
She asked to have the minutes be more explicit in terms of when issues are addressed: for example,
when would the chestnut tree issue be done. The minutes were changed to reflect this addition:
Ronda notified the CAC that Allen Nichols of the American Chestnut Foundation was invited (by Ronda) to
come to Danby to talk and asked the CAC to sponsor this. At the presentation he would be giving away
trees. (This is in reference to an email Ronda sent to the CAC). A discussion of this was deferred until a
future meeting.
Minutes
The November minutes were approved with additions and corrections as noted. Jenny moved, Joel
seconded. Joel Don, Jenny, Mary approved. Matt abstained.
Discussion
Annual Meeting
Joel presented a draft of the annual report. There was discussion of the proper name for the Water
District Property. We will call it “the Water District Property” unless there is a formal change.
Executive Session
Joel moved to go into executive session to discuss easements. Mary seconded. All approved.
Discussion Continued
Hunting on Water District Property specifically, but town property in general. . Motion: Joel will draft
a request the Town Board to authorize the town attorney to provide more clarity on the hunting issue before
making a final decision.
Don moved. Mary seconded. All approved.

Suggestion to create article for Danby News about how the easements help Danby. Discuss for next
month.
Chestnut Talk Discussion
Joel clarified that the talk would be about the SUNY ESF Research into resistant chestnut trees. The
speaker would not be handing out the modified trees at the talk. Jenny said she would not want to have the
CAC sponsor a talk about GMO trees. Mary is in favor of the talk. Don is also in favor of having the talk.
The group agreed to hold the discussion until Dan and Bill were present. Jenny suggested an
undertaking by the CAC to sponsor a conservation series. How do we select speakers and topics that are
about conservation? Are they regional or topical? Matt suggested that the CCE may be a resource for talks.
Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 PM.
The next meeting is January 25, 2016 at 7:00PM.
