HomeMy WebLinkAboutletter of support 11-20-15.pdf Mr. Ron Feldstein, President and CEO Municipal Electric and Gas Association P.O. Box 88 Ithaca, NY 14850 November 20, 2015 Dear Mr. Feldstein, Thank you for the presentation you made to representatives in Ithaca on November 3rd about Community Choice Aggregation (CCA). The presentation and subsequent question and answer session was very helpful in understanding this new municipal option for group purchasing of electricity. The Town of Ulysses is interested in considering this option in concert with MEGA. Thank you for outlining the Public Service Commission’s CCA concepts for bringing energy supply options that are either less expensive, or encourage distributed energy sources such as solar and wind. We understand that over time, we could encourage more local and sustainable energy production through the use of a CCA and assist in achieving the goals of reducing the production of greenhouse gases. We understand the process moving forward will be transparent and competitive with other energy suppliers and through group negotiations, can eliminate questionable marketing practices that frequently victimize our residents. We also understand the protocols and procedures are being developed by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and once finalized, we will consider executing a program of vigorous public information and education, a referendum, and competitive procurement and management oversight to assure our residents receive the benefits of aggregation and also afforded an opportunity to participate in shaping their energy future. Please keep us informed of the PSC’s decisions and the steps needed to move forward. Sincerely, Elizabeth Thomas Ulysses Town Supervisor
