Annual Stewart Park Spring Waterfront Clean Up The Friends of Stewart Park invite you this Saturday, April 8, from 10 am to noon! Dress for the weather, wear boots, and bring gloves, garbage bags, litter grabbers or anything else that will help. Meet at the Picnic “Large” Pavilion. Also, coming up is "I Love My Park Day" on May 6th from 10 am to noon. The largest one-day volunteer event in NYS, sponsored in part by Parks and Trails New York. Registration is appreciated, but not required. New Town Hall Lobby Displays The History Center’s Knot Sew Fast – Patchwork of Tompkins County The History Center in Tompkins County is a generation-to-generation education and research center preserving the history of Tompkins County; helping people use the tools of history to understand the past, gain perspective on the present, and play an informed role in shaping the future. Please take a moment to check out their website, full of information on their Exhibit Hall, Guided Tours, and how to do your own self-guided tour with a mobile app. Right now, there is a Home History Scavenger Hunt for all ages, a wonderful way for children to become interested in history. SAVE THE DATE(S) “The Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ' and Deyodi:ho:nǫˀ People and Tutelo Park” -Adding layers of meaning to the land now named Tutelo Park- Hosted by the Town, with input from Gayogo̱hó꞉nǫ representatives and other Haudenosaunee nations. May 6, 2023, 11:00am - 3:00pm Tutelo Park, Bostwick Road We highlighted this event last month, check it out! This next event continues the theme of highlight our history and Ithaca area’s indigenous history: The Canoe Fest will feature indigenous boatbuilding and wayfinding demonstrations, open paddling on Cayuga Lake and dragon boat racing. Indigenous foods and crafts vendors, origami paper canoe lessons for children and traditional Haudenosaunee Social Dances. A welcome ceremony will be given by Sachem Sam George, Cayuga Nations, Bear Clan, followed by an open paddling session with Hickory Edwards, Haudenosaunee Canoe Journey. Around noon, the DYSON students will gift the canoe they built, followed by a traditional Chines Eye Dotting Ceremony “Awakening the Dragons” and a colorful performance by Cornell Lion Dance Club. The Conservation Board invites you to a Pollinator Garden Tour on Saturday, August 19th. This event is part of the Conservation Board’s efforts to provide information to residents on how to establish and promote pollinator-friendly habitats and spaces on your property. Hosts in the area welcome you to visit their gardens and find inspiration for your own and to learn about ways to replace lawn areas with beautiful gardens that will provide an important wildlife habitat for pollinators. FEMA FLOOD STUDY FOR TOMPKINS COUNTY Meeting Follow Up Updates to the FEMA Flood Plain Maps have been a hot topic. Although the changes do not greatly impact Town of Ithaca properties, you may be interested in the presentation which was held last month.
