HomeMy WebLinkAboutVillage Justice Report 1972•. REPORT OF THE VILLAGE JUSTICE TO THE MAYOR AND TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF CAYUGA HEIGIITS 1971 . Motor vehicle matters still comprise the bulk of the cases in the Village Court, but the total has.dropped off. Hopefully, traffic volume has stablized at least temporarily, and regular users of the Village streets are remembering to observe the Vehicle and Traffic Law in the Village. Criminal cases declined from last year. Pad checks were predominant with narcotic drugs next, although actually a number of the bad check matters involved drug addicts seeking funds for their addiction. The calibre of the Cayuga Iieights Police Department continues to be outstanding. Cooperation from the other police agencies has contributed to the efficient conduct of the business of the court. In most cases of serious misdemeanors and in some other cases where difficult questions were presented at sentencing the assistance of the Tompkins County Probation Department in preparing pre- sentencing investigations and in supervising probation, where granted, has been indispensable. , The Honorable Harry G. Henn, Acting Village Justice, has continued to serve capably when the Village Justice has been unavailable. His cases are included in the accompanying com- pilation. Especial thanks are due to Mr. Roger Hecht and I7r. Seale Tuttle, law students, who served successively as court clerk. Mr. Tuttle completely reorganized the procedures and paper work of the Court with great success. A total of 231 hours was devoted to the work of the Court by the Village Justice. In addition the Village Justice served as Secretary- Treasurer of the Tompkins County Magistrates' Association. Respectfully submitted, Lt[/ William Tucker Dean Village Justice • February 15, 1972
