SUBJECT: UPCOMING CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING – MARCH 6, 2014
This is to confirm that the next meeting of the Conservation Board (CB) is Thursday,
March 6th at 5:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is enclosed (see the back of this
memo). The draft minutes from the January 16, 2014 and February 6, 2014 meetings are
attached.
At this meeting we will continue the discussions of deer management efforts in the area
and on the pest management policy research (examples of pest management policies from
other communities and costs involved) that was requested by the Town’s Public Works
Committee. As part of the deer management discussion, I did find in the Conservation
Board files a report prepared for the Town Board titled “DEER IN THE TOWN OF ITHACA:
Benefits, Negative Effects, Amelioration”. While the report is ten years old (November
2004), I thought it still might be helpful and show the direction/conclusion the CB was
heading at that point.
Also at this meeting I will provide a demonstration of several public mapping websites that
contain environmental information that the CB could access for various projects. After the
meeting I will email everyone all the website links so you have them for future reference.
We will also need to spend some time at this meeting discussing the Richard Fischer
Award (under Communication Committee report). While there were several suggestions of
possible nominees, at this point I have not received any formal nominations.
