HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-03-16 - CB Memo & Agenda TO: CONSERVATION BOARD MEMBERS FROM: MICHAEL SMITH, SENIOR PLANNER DATE: FEBRUARY 25, 2016 SUBJECT: UPCOMING CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING – MARCH 3, 2016 This is to confirm that the next meeting of the Conservation Board (CB) is Thursday, March 3rd at 5:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is enclosed (see the back of this memo). The draft minutes from the February 4, 2016 meeting are attached. The draft minutes from the November 5, 2015 meeting were not available for the mailout. At this meeting we will have Nick Goldsmith, the Town’s (and City’s) Sustainability Planner, join us to discuss what projects he is currently working on. For additional information on the Town’s sustainability efforts, please see the Town’s website http://www.town.ithaca.ny.us/sustainability or the sustainability Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/IthacaSustainability. We will also need to spend some time at this meeting reviewing the nominations for the 2015 Fischer Award and select one. Prior to the last meeting, Eva provided a list of several potential nominees including the Cayuga Nature Center Summer Camp, the Floating Classroom, Trout in the Classroom, Tony Ingraham, and Get Your Greenback Tompkins. James has formalized the nomination for the Cayuga Nature Center Summer Camp by email, which I have forwarded to everyone for your review. I have also attached some of the information here, for your consideration of the nominations. As part of the continued discussion on deer management, CB members that attended the Town Board Study Session can provide a summary and feedback on that meeting. The CB will need to discuss follow-up items from the meeting along with strategies/plans to move forward. We will also continue with discussions on invasive species, including the use of goats as an environmentally friendly weed and invasive species control and the possibility of creating educational material (brochures) on invasive plants. Carrie has signed up to take minutes at the March meeting. If you have any questions prior to the meeting or are not able to attend, please contact me at msmith@town.ithaca.ny.us or 607-273-1747.
