SUBJECT: UPCOMING CONSERVATION BOARD MEETING – June 1, 2017
This is to confirm that the next meeting of the Conservation Board (CB) is Thursday,
June 1st at 5:30 p.m. The agenda for this meeting is enclosed (see the back of this
memo). The draft minutes from the May 4, 2017 meeting are included in the packet.
At this meeting we will have an update on the deer management report and the May
22nd meeting with the Town Board.
We will also discuss ideas to see if the CB would like to host another event this summer
as part of the 4th annual NY Invasive Species Awareness Week (July 9 – 15). This
year’s theme is “Invasive Species Reality Check: Where We Are & Where We Need to
Go”. As you will recall, last year the CB hosted an invasive species educational event in
the Town’s East Ithaca Nature Preserve. Unfortunately last year’s event had low
attendance with other similar events occurring on East Hill, so it was suggested by CB
members that we try an event on South or West Hill this year. More information about

At a previous meeting, the CB started to discuss the timber harvesting requirements
that are part of the Town’s Conservation Zone. The CB expressed an interest in
reviewing the requirements to see if any updates should be recommended to the Town
Board. Attached is a copy of the entire Conservation Zone section of the code, with the
timber harvesting requirements marked in red on pages 6 - 8.
We will need a volunteer to take the minutes at the June meeting.
