Lansing Chief of Police April 2, 2001 To: The Honorable Ronald E. Anderson Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights From: Report of the Police Department for March 2001 For the month of March there were a total of 98 complaints reported to the police department and 6 motor vehicle accidents investigated. There were a total of 53 traffic tickets issued and 39 parking tickets written. During March there were no felony complaints received. There were six misdemeanor complaints reported: one for Bad Check, three for Petit Larceny, one for Aggravated Harassment and one for Criminal Tampering. One Petit Larceny was a report of items taken from the recreation area and kitchen area of a student housing residence. The other Petit Larcenies occurred at the Mobil Express Mart. One incident was the theft of plastic tote boxes located outside of the building. The other Petit Larceny involved employee theft, which resulted in the arrest of the subject. The aggravated harassment took place when an unknown subject sent an email from the complainant's computer to everyone in her address book causing undue alarm. The complainant had no idea who might have used her computer. The Criminal Tampering case was reported by a subject when he found a piece of his mail already opened in his mailbox. There were three violations reported during March for Disorderly Conduct. Two of the complaints were for loud music being played. The subjects responsible turned off the music without further action needed. The third Disorderly Conduct was a report by a bus driver that youths had hit the bus with snowballs. The youths responsible were located, advised of the complaint and told to stop. Both of the two village ordinance complaints were requests for solicitor's permits. There were 3 Vehicle and Traffic Complaints: one for parking, one for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and one for a traffic problem. There were eighty-four miscellaneous complaints handled by this department for the month. In March Officer Cain participated in the Mystery Festival held each year at the Northeast School. His position was that of the Crime Scene Investigator and he dealt with the evidence and clues needed to find out which stuffed animal was guilty of the crime. The students had to determine which stuffed animal had gotten up to play when it should have been sleeping. Officer Lanning attended the Cabin Fever Day which is held in Barton Hall each year. Officer Lanning spent the day fingerprinting children. Officer Lanning also attended the open house at the Day Care Facility at the Congregational Church. There he fingerprinted the kids and spoke with their parents. The Police Department is now on line with the Division of Criminal Justice Secured Services and the Department of Motor Vehicles. This enables the officers to directly obtain pertinent information needed for investigations and traffic control. During the month of March the full time officers worked 117 hours of overtime and the part-time officers worked 123 hours. There was a total of $544 in property reported lost or stolen during the month of March and a total of $113 in property recovered. Sincerely, Kenneth W.
