HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of Fire Department Oct 2001CAYUGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca. NY 14950 (607) 257 -2377 Honorable Ronald Anderson, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights Monthly Report - October November 13, 2001 During the Month of October, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to twenty medical emergencies and fifteen fires related calls. Of the calls, seventeen were in the Town of Ithaca and fifteen were in the Village. The fire department also provided mutual aid assistance three times during the month. The Cayuga Heights Fire Department received no mutual aid assistance. During the month, the Fire Company held its annual Open House along with the dedication of the new station. The members were extremely pleased with the turnout of government officials and citizens. It's always a time to show our best and this year it had a special meaning due to the terrorist attacks. An advertisement was placed in the Ithaca Journal for the sale of the old Chevrolet (243). No bids were received and we're still the owners of this vehicle. Members of the Cayuga Heights Fire and Police Departments along with school officials have been involved in formulating a "Safe School Plan" for the area schools. The plan sets guidelines on how the school will handle emergencies. On November 5th the plan was put into effect when smoke filled a portion of the Cayuga Heights School. The school was evacuated and 400 children and teachers walked to the Cayuga Heights Fire Station. The children were placed in the training rooms, ready room, cardio health room and the conference room. Once the school was cleared of the smoke, the children were returned. Under normal circumstances, the children would be taken to th6 fire station where school buses would meet them and transport them to another location. The fire department now has a plan on responding to emergencies involving possible Anthrax. Members have also received addition training on hazardous materials issues. Si a ly Robert D.
