HomeMy WebLinkAboutReport of Fire Department 7/6/2001CAI'UGA HEIGHTS FIRE DEPARTMENT 194 Pleasant Grove Road Ithaca, NY 14850 (607) 257 -2377 July 9, 2001 Honorable Ronald Anderson, Mayor Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights During the Month of June, the Cayuga Heights Fire Department responded to sixteen medical emergencies and twenty fire related calls. Of the calls, fifteen were in the Town of Ithaca and eighteen were in the Village. The fire department also provided mutual aid assistance three times during the month. The Cayuga Heights Fire Department received no mutual aid assistance during the month. The 1993 Chevrolet support vehicle used by the fire department is in need of major repair. At the present time this vehicle is in need of a power steering pump and a Drom Chip. The Drom Chip controls the operation of the airbags. The Drom Chip would cost approximately $1700.00. Bill Cooke also states that the chip might not be the only problem with the airbags and may need additional parts. At the present time, the Chevrolet has over 90,000 miles logged. Prior to the fire department receiving this vehicle, it was used by the police department as a patrol vehicle. Due to repair costs, mileage, and safety concerns, the vehicle has been taken out of service. I would like to ask the Village Board permission to obtain the present police vehicle that is being disposed of. I would then sell the 1993 Chevrolet for whatever it's worth. Mid June two members of the truck committee and myself flew to Florida and inspected the new vehicle. Several changes were made to this vehicle at the factory at our request. They included paint concerns; hose bed depth problems, and no front bumper compartment. All the issues have been resolved at this present time. This vehicle will serve the Village for many years to come. The vehicle has now been delivered to the fire department and is awaiting the mounting of equipment. Drivers must also be trained on "HELP PREVENT FIRES" the operation of this vehicle. I would hope that this vehicle would be in service within the next thirty days. I have completed a draft of our "Station Use Policy" and at the present time Fire Council is reviewing the document. In the near future I will be giving it to the Village Attorney for his review.
