HomeMy WebLinkAboutSilberman, June.PDFI am speaking out again to the Village Board, but this time it is in regard to the safety issues of the Local Law J. lt has come to my attention that the Village Board has authorized the purchase olf several million dollars of additional liability coverage connected with the 500 foot rule in regard to shooting deer in a residential area. Although the Village is protecting itself from resident's personal and property damages , it make us feel as if this is an expected outcome of the program" lt makes us feel as if the sharp shooters aren't s;o sharp. As a former educalor, to help solve problems, continuums were used. At one end of a continuum is the least drastic change and at the other end-the most drastic. lf this is applied to the deer situation, sterilization falls in the middle. That, plus the fact tlhat the new fencing ordinance has been approved, why does the shooting have to occur simultaneously? Why can't the sterilization and the fencing have time to have an imperct before the Village begins to shoot ? lf both sterilization and fencing work, there may bra no need to shoot. These two changes need time to have an impact on the deer population. Yes, the residents want the reduction of deer but we want to feel safe in our community. June Silberman 111 Warwick Place
