We had 33 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 15 in the Town of Ithaca and 4 mutual aid requests. We had 31 EMS calls and 21 fire calls. We did several trainings in February. Early in the month we did a joint fire and EMS training. We spent the evening simulating packaging patients for transport. We put people in areas that were difficult to access and had crews figure out how to quickly and safely move the patients. This is a great assessment and team building exercise. Lt. John Tomasulo did forcible entry training late in the month. Many times we can not access an area because of locked doors. John has an amazing array of locks that he has accumulated over the years and taken apart. This is a hands on training where we figure out how to defeat different locks. Finally we did a training on fire behavior. This training is put together by Matt Abbinanti and shows many different types of fires in a slide show. For this training we take a look at the conditions of the fires on the slides from different angles and it gets people thinking about conditions of the incidents from different sides. It’s a nice indoor training for a poor weather night. We will have nine new members for our spring recruit class. We expected to have less then 10 people at our recruiting dinner in late February and we actually had 27 attend. Many of them saw the sign in front of the station and came to the dinner to see what the fire department was all about. Out of the 27 who came to the dinner 17 applied to the department. We had interviews and decided to accept nine new members for the spring class. We were limited by the amount of turnout gear and pagers we have to issue. Our spring training starts on March 11th. We are preparing for department elections on April 3rd. I will have a slate of officers for 2011/12 to present to the board for approval at the April organizational meeting. The annual Installation Banquet will be April 23rd at the Country Club of Ithaca. We set the date for our pancake breakfast for April 30th from 8:30 to 11:00. As I said in last months report we do one of these events every couple of years to get the community to visit the fire station. We do not charge for the breakfast. The local Brownie Troop will be assisting with the breakfast as part of their communit y service program. The members of the department and the Brownies are all excited. The Annual Yard Sale will be May 20th and 21st. We have already started getting calls at the station from people who want to donate items for the yard sale. We are getting ready to do some more maintenance painting at the station. We seem to be able to keep the walls at the station looking good if we paint a couple areas each year. KME is progressing nicely with the new E202. We have some pictures of the painted cab with some of the lights installed which I will attach to my report. They are still looking at a late April delivery. We hope to have the truck by pancake breakfast so people in the community will be able to take a look at it. With our nine new members we are currently at 56 members in the fire department. This is largest number of active members we have had in the department in my memory. Assistant Chief Joe Lisi resigned from the department in February. Joe was a member for ten years and will be missed. Joe took care of most of our equipment maintenance for many years. We have divided those duties amongst several other members. We have had several meetings with our maintenance vendors to ensure that we do not miss any scheduled maintenance. We are planning on turning the gear storage room into a maintenance office at this time. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCY CALLS: 58 TOTAL CALLS YEAR TO DATE: 58 Total Calls – 52 Fire Calls – 21 EMS Calls - 31 Total Mutual Aid – 4 Calls in the Village – 33 Calls in the Town – 15 TRAINING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: 2/1 – Fire/EMS Training 2/9 – Fire Training – Fire Behavior 2/13 – Fire Council 2/16 – Fire Training – FAST UPCOMING EVENTS: 3/10 – Fire Training – Live Burn 3/12 – Recruit Training 4/3 – Annual Elections 4/9 – Recruit Training 4/16 – Recruit Training 4/23 – Annual Installation Banquet 4/30 – Pancake Breakfast
