This is 59 more then last year. It was a very busy year for the volunteers of the Cayuga Heights Fire Department. We had 24 calls in the Village of Cayuga Heights, 12 in the Town of Ithaca and 3 mutual aid requests. We had 23 EMS calls and 16 fire calls. On December 1st we were again out and busy removing water from basements throughout the district after the major rain storm came through the area. We were running calls steadily through the holiday weekend. FF Matt Morgan was the only bunker in the station over the weekend and managed to cover all the EMS runs as well as ensuring he had crews for fire calls. By the end of the weekend he was pretty tired but we did not drop any calls. On the 28th of the month we were put on standby by the Ithaca Fire Department to man an engine in our station for a possible move to the city due to a major motor vehicle crash that they were dispatched to. A crew assembled at the fire station then we were dispatched to the scene of a structure fire in the city. Our crew responded and assisted at the scene of the fire. Luckily the fire was suppressed quickly with minimal damage to the home. Training slowed down a bit in December with the holidays and many of our members traveling out of town. We did get in a FAST training that again incorporated all of our members. We also did our Annual Fire Fighter Jeopardy training. This is a fun training where we have to come up with answers to fire related topics. We split into teams for this training and it is a fantastic training to reinforce knowledge and get in a good laugh before we parted ways for break. The probationary members are working toward checklist completion with the deadline being early February 2011 for their checklists to be done. As with every class, the checklist must be complete by the deadline to continue membership in the department. We have our annual training day on January 29th to review all of the OSHA required topics and refresh CPR and teach an original CPR class to those who need it. I spoke with the KME engineer about our truck and it was being welded together the last week in December and is coming along nicely according to our contact. He is planning on sending along some photos of the truck this week. We are still looking at an end of April delivery for E202. At some point in the near future we will take a day trip to the factory in Pennsylvania and get a look at their progress. We look forward to all of our members returning from break at the end of the month. Several are coming back early to take some of the state fire classes being offered in mid January and will be staying in the overnight rooms at the station. It will be great to back at full staffing soon. We are all looking forward to a safe 2011. Sincerely, George Tamborelle Fire Chief/Fire Superintendent EMERGENCY CALLS: 39 TOTAL CALLS YEAR TO DATE: 576 Total Calls – 39 Fire Calls – 16 EMS Calls - 23 Total Mutual Aid – 3 Calls in the Village – 24 Calls in the Town – 12 TRAINING / MEETINGS / EVENTS: 12/5 – Fire Council 12/8 – Fire Training – FAST 12/16 – Fire Training – Fire Jeopardy UPCOMING EVENTS: 1/29 – Department Mandatory OSHA Training and CPR certification 4/23 – Annual Installation Banquet
