Ny. U s . Fax: (6-0 i l. 257 -347 4 Kenneth W. Lansing Chief of Folice To: The Honorable Walter Lynn Members of the Board of Trustees Village of Cayuga Heights I hereby submit the annual report of the activities of the CayugaHeights police Department for the year ending 2005. This year I'm proud and happy to report we have had no personnel changes within thepolice ranks' We have had an addition to one of our officer's household. officer JamesManning and his wife Margaret had a visit from the stork deiivering a beautiful littlebaby gitl, Allison Lee Manning. our part-time staff has stayed in tack for the past yearmaking them a very reliable and important part of our department. We had Traci Eatonworking for us as a part-time police clerk most of the ,.rrn*., and fall helping us get ourrecord keeping management system cleaned up. After Traci left us for a full timeposition closer to home we were able to get another part-time police clerk KathleenTrinkle to take her spot in December. Wi also had to replace one of our two schoolcrossing guards when Martha Collacchi had to resign Oue to health reasons. We had tohire two people in orderto fill her spot. The dutieJfor her position are shared by twoteacher aids at the school, Brian Ri'chack and patricia Manuel. On the training front we continue to keep our staff up on the latest technical andinformative schools dealing with various aspects of police work. We have had ourannual firearms training as we do every year. It has now come to our attention that somedepartments have been extending thLeiifireanns training through other means. Sgt Boyceand I attended a demonstration onLazar training in fire"arms, sponsored by the TompkinsCounty Sheriff s office. This type of training al'iows officers to fine tune iheir shootingand reaction skills when confronted with different real life situations through a frojectedimage from a computer onto a screen. All officers could do this type of tralning while onduty at our office as often as time allows. Just the few hours we spent that day with thesystem greatly improved our judgment and reaction time. Some of our officers attended a one day traini'g on sex offender mallagement record keeping. our departmentcontinues to be asked to assist other outslde departrnents and organizations in helpingwith trainings and presentations. we have helied BocES driver education classes withofficers giving demos and talks about driver safety issues. Kendal of Ithaca has beengiven classroom talks about violence in the workplace. Bicycle education ancl safbtypresentations were held at our locall elementary schools. we held a one day training atthe Tompkins county-91 1 center for police off.r..rr, judges and court clerks on theDivision of criminal Justices Secure services. we assis6d BocES once agai' with theEckerd's Drug Quiz .h9y by supplying officers to help judge and keep score. we heldanother simunitions training at oewittlaiaat. School with memuers olother local policeagencies. As you look at the figures contained in this report you will see that totals have risen inalmost every aspect of our duties in the village. The demands on public safety personnelhave continued to increase every year over the last five yeais. we will continue to shiveto meet the needs of the community in all aspects of the puflic safety field. we alsothank the village Board and vilage residents for there continued support. nneth W.
