HomeMy WebLinkAboutCB Minutes 2019-12-05 Town of Ithaca Conservation Board Thursday December 5,2019 Final Minutes Members Present:James Hamilton, Elizabeth Hageman, Mike Roberts, Eva Hoffmann, Lindsay Dombroskie, Vladimir Micic Staff: Mike Smith (Senior Planner) Guests: Lori Brewer, Karen Johnson Feltham, Carolyn Lee 1. Persons to be heard: None 2. Member concerns: Eva is concerned about the amount of time that buses idle on Green Street. She reported that the time buses are allowed to idle at the NYC Port Authority is three minutes. Elizabeth plans on attending the Trees up Tompkins meeting with Hannah. 3. Chair and Coordinator reports: Mike R. i. There may be someone at Cornell that has funding for a study regarding deer impact. ii. In addition, he questioned if Cornell Botanic Garden could donate some woody plants to the Town that may be getting too large. Mike S. i. The three properties from last year are willing to participate again in the deer nuisance program this year. In addition, a Coy Glen resident has expressed interest as well. Six Mile Creek natural area is also ready to go and staff in the City of Ithaca are scoping out sites.The city will be voting on this soon. ii. Finger Lakes Institute has a one-day conference in Geneva on Jan 151" if anyone is interested. iii. Planning Board-On the agenda is the re-zoning of a tree and lawn service on Trumansburg Road and the splitting of a lot on Ellis Hollow Road. 4. October minutes were voted on and approved (moved by James, seconded by Mike R.). 5. Regular Reports and updates a. Environmental Review Committee i. Hannah will be added to the ERC b. Scenic Resources Committee- Eva and Jon looked at the bench at the new site on Rt 96B and the bench can be moved slightly. Eva requested that members visit the site for feedback on moving it. c. Communications Committee- Nothing to report d. Tompkins County EMC-The Unique Natural Area maps were reviewed and approved. A total of 44 maps in total with approximately 5%of land was lost due to the re-drawing of the maps. Also, the chair of the EMC is stepping down. e. Six Mile Creek-CSI had two events in November: a stream buffer workshop and a Harmful Algae Bloom workshop. f. Cornell Botanic Gardens-The group tackled invasives three times during November. 1 g. City of Ithaca Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission—No report. 6. Other Business- a. Meeting schedule for 2020 was voted on and approved (moved by Eva, seconded by Mike R.). b. Mike R. was nominated to remain as chair of the CB.This was voted on and approved for 2020 (moved by Elizabeth, seconded by Vladimir). c. Hannah was nominated to remain as vice chair of the CB.This was voted on and approved for 2020(moved by Elizabeth, seconded by Mike R.). d. New member positions were discussed, including the process. 7. Work Goals will be discussed in more detail in January 2020. Fisher award nomination ideas for 2020 were briefly discussed. 8.
