Final Minutes
Members present: Lindsay Dombroskie, James Hamilton, Eva Hoffmann, Carolyn Lee, Michael Roberts (Chair),
Will VanDyke.
Staff. Michael Smith, Senior Planner.
1. Persons to be heard: none
2. Members' Concerns: none
3. Chairperson and Coordinator Reports:
Chairperson: Mike R mentioned that he recently read"Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific
Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants"by Robin Kimmerer and recommends the book.
Coordinator, Mike Smith: Mike S reported on the upcoming invasive species conference, the status of the
native tree and shrub replanting project along the South Hill Recreation Way, and that he has received a call
from Jon Meigs who has decided to resign from the CB.
4. Approval of minutes from June 4, 2020 and July 2, 2020: The June 4th minutes were moved by James and
seconded by Eva; approved. The July 2nd minutes were moved by James and seconded by Mike R with minor edits,
approved.
5. Planning for the fall 2020 Richard B. Fischer Environmental Conservation Award tree planting: The group
discussed potential tree species and sizes preferred. The planting will take place in the Town's Salem Park in the
northeast. James will contact Joe Talbut at Public Works about the tree and will email the Cayuga Bird Club about
potential plans and scheduling. The group felt a weekend towards the end of September would work.
6. Update on research of compostable/biodegradable take out containers: no update available
7. Regular Reports and Updates.
a. Environmental Review Committee (Mike R.): no report
b. Scenic Resources Committee (Eva): no report
c. Communications Committee (Will): no report
d. Tompkins County Environmental Management Council(EMC),(Vladimir): no report
e. Six Mile Creek Volunteer Monitoring Program (James): We sampled the creek on July 8th and found the
water very low.
f. Cornell Botanic Gardens Natural Areas Program (James): no report—still not able to volunteer due to
COVID restrictions.
8. Other Business—Nomination and Election of a Vice-Chair for the remainder of 2020: After initial discussion,
this item was postponed to the September meeting.
