IN THIS WEEK'S ULYSSES NEWSLETTER: Share Thoughts on TC's Strategic Plan Funding for Farming Practices Summer Rec Program Info Town Comp Plan Info Free Fishing This Weekend Upcoming Meetings Town Facebook page Board/Committee Vacancies TOMPKINS COUNTY SEEKS FEEDBACK ON DRAFT MISSION, VISION, VALUES,AND STRATEGIC PRIORITIES (Ithaca, N.Y., February 13, 2024) --Tompkins County residents are encouraged to participate in a short survey_for the organization's first Strategic Operations Plan to outline goals and objectives and help Tompkins County prioritize its resources and allocate them to best them. The survey, including the draft statements, values, and priorities, can be found online at https://tcgoy.co/strategicplan The survey will remain open until February 28. FUNDING FOR LOCAL FARMING PRACTICES Funding is available for local farmers to implement practices that help reduce runoff, increase soil health, sequester carbon and help soils hold water. Those with questions about state and federal grants available for these efforts are invited to drop-in office hours with local agencies from 2 to 4 pm, Friday, March 1, at the offices of Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Tompkins County. The Tompkins County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) and Tompkins/Cortland/Schuyler Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), in collaboration with CCE Tompkins, will be available. The focus of the session will be on the Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) and the Climate Resilient Farming program (CRF). If you are interested in more general information about the programs that SWCD and NRCS manage, you should plan to attend the CCE Tompkins Ag Summit, to be held on March 18, where agency staff will provide overviews of the funding that is available. TOWN OF ULYSSES SUMMER RECREATION CAMP REGISTRATION The Town of Ulysses Summer Recreation Camp registration will open on Saturday, March 16 at 8am. Registration for Spring programs (track, baseball, softball, tennis, and pickleball) will also open on March 16. TOWN COMPREHENSIVE PLAN NEWS: Help our community plan for Ulysses future! The Town of Ulysses has begun to update its Comprehensive Plan, a critical summary of the vision and strategies needed to guide the Town's development in a direction our community wants to go. The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee (CPSC) invites all stakeholders, including residents, business owners, youth and visitors to share their important perspectives on what makes our Town great, and where we should be headed. Join the Comp Plan Steering Committee's Listsery The listsery is intended to help keep community members informed about upcoming meetings, news, and events related to the Town's 2025-2045 Periodic Comp Plan Update. Consultant Sought for Plan Update The Town of Ulysses is soliciting a qualified consultant from a multidisciplinary consulting firm to assist in the development of the 2025-2045 Comprehensive Plan Periodic Update and associated Environmental Impact Statement. FREE FISHING WEEKEND—FEBRUARY 17-18 From NYS DEC A fishing license isn't required over the course of these two days to check out ice fishing. Check out the links below to get started. With the variable temperatures much of the state has experienced this winter we strongly recommend you check the ice thickness frequently as you venture out on the ice. BOARD/COMMITTEE VACANCIES: The Town of Ulysses is seeking 1 alternate (1-year appointment) for each of the boards listed below. Being an alternate is a great way to ease in to being a board member. Apply at Application for boards/committees . Questions can be sent to Town Planner Niels Tygesen and/or Town Supervisor Katelin Olson. Planning Board-Typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, and periodically on the 3rd Tuesday as needed. Possible duties include: 0 The review of, and issuing decisions on, various land use permits including site plan review and special use permits; • The review of, and providing recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on, variance applications, and • The review of, and providing recommendations to the Town Board on, the Town's broad planning goals, policies and long-range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones, and zoning code revisions. Board of Zoning Appeals-Typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Possible duties include: • Hearing requests and issuing decisions on variances for proposed land uses or developments that do not comply with current local zoning code; and • Hearing and issuing decisions on appeals of any order, requirement, decision, interpretation, or determination made by the Zoning Officer.
