FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS:
The Town of Ulysses has limited funding for community organiza�ons who offer services that contribute
to the health, safety and welfare of town ci�zens. Groups that have been funded in the past have
provided senior services, arts programs, recrea�on and more. Historically, organiza�ons typically request
between $500 and $5,000.

The deadline to apply for funding is September 8, 2023 at 3pm. Please note that funding is not
guaranteed.
PUBLIC MEETINGS/HEARINGS:

PREPAREDNESS & SAFETY FAIR:
Tompkins County Emergency Response and Whole Health are partnering with the Shops at Ithaca Mall to

host their second annual Emergency Preparedness & Safety Fair on Saturday, September 16th from 11am
to 2pm.
The event is being held in conjunc�on with Na�onal Preparedness Month. The 2023 theme is focused on
the well-being of older adults.
The event will include the par�cipa�on of various agencies and organiza�ons, including representa�ves
from local police and fire departments, emergency medical services, the Red Cross, Salva�on Army, and
the Na�onal Weather Service, and feature CPR and first aid demonstra�ons as well as a medevac
helicopter.
Other highlights include a Lite Rock 97.3 radio broadcast from 11am-1pm, a Red Cross community blood
drive from 10am to 2pm (visit www.RedCrossBlood.org) and a Ci�zen Preparedness Corps training at
10:30am (pre-registra�on required at www.prepare.ny.gov).
PLANNING BOARD ALTERNATE NEEDED:
The Town of Ulysses is seeking applicants to fill 1 member (5-yr term) plus 2 seats for alternates on the
Planning Board. Alternate terms last for 1 year and are a great way to learn about the board. Alternates
are expected to a�end all mee�ngs but will only vote when a quorum is needed.
Some of the du�es of the Planning Board include:
�The review of, and issuing decisions on, various land use permits including site plan review
and special use permits
�The review of, and providing recommenda�ons to the Board of Zoning Appeals on, variance
applica�ons
�The review of, and providing recommenda�ons to the Town Board on, the Town’s broad
planning goals, policies and long-range plans, such as the Comprehensive Plan, rezones,
and zoning code revisions.
The Planning Board typically meets once a month at 7pm on the 1st Tuesday of the month, and
periodically on the 3rd Tuesday as needed. Ques�ons can be sent to Town Planner Niels
Tygesen and/or Town Supervisor Katelin Olson
If you or someone you know is interested, please submit a volunteer application. The posi�ons are
appointed by the Town Board.

TCFA CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:
Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts (TCFA) has been awarded a matching grant of $279,000 from the
New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to restore and improve their building. The project will
include:
�Restora�on of the exterior wood façade, doors and all historic details
�Fully ADA-compliant outside entrance
�Construc�on of an ADA-accessible restroom
�Renova�on of the lobby and main hall interior finishes and ligh�ng
�Restora�on of the original windows
�Founda�on poin�ng and drainage
�Safety and sustainability improvements

DOG CENSUS- STILL TIME TO LICENSE YOUR DOG:
The town is conduc�ng a town-wide dog census and needs your help...
�If you DO NOT have a dog, please respond at https://forms.gle/PmQ49SPsvESGZind9 so
that we can eliminate you from our mailing list.
�If you DO have a dog that does not yet have a license, complete the form at
https://townofulyssesny.gov/__cms/docs/Dog-license-form-2022.pdf and return along with
rabies/spay informa�on.
Any dogs found to be unlicensed a�er the census period will be assessed a $25 fee in addi�on to the
usual licensing fees. For informa�on, contact the clerk’s office at ulysses.clerk@gmail.com or call
