Mr. Reynolds began working for the highway department in 1988 and became superintendent in 2016. The Town of Ulysses staff and board are grateful for Mr. Reynolds’ many years of service and wish him well in his retirement. Leadership for the highway department now falls to the Deputy Highway Superintendent, Scott Stewart. The Highway Superintendent position will be on the ballot in the November 2019 election. Zoning Update The latest version of the town’s zoning update pre-draft is available here: http://www.ulysses.ny.us/boards /zoning-update/. The draft has been sent to the Planning Board for comment and is due back to the Town Board by June 5. After that time, the Town Board will create a final public draft and hold a public hearing before voting on the proposed law. Taking Steps to Build a Community Pool Having a community pool has long been a dream for the area. Taking steps to make that dream a reality, the Town of Ulysses is working with the Trumansburg Central School District, Trumansburg Community Recreation (TCR), and the Village of Trumansburg to move this project forward. These four entities (called the 4 Boards), with leadership from TCR, are currently evaluating recreation spaces in our community, with an eye toward ensuring that healthy recreational activities are available for all. The 4 Boards are excited to announce that the Trumansburg Central School District will be actively researching and planning for construction of a pool. The Town of Ulysses and others from the 4 Boards support the creation of a restricted fund (Capital Reserve) as a proposition which is part of the of the Trumansburg Central School District Budget to be voted on on Tuesday, May 21. If the proposition passes, our school and community can begin saving and fundraising for the construction (and maintenance) of a new community pool on school grounds. A community pool will not only serve the students, but the entire Trumansburg area. Water District 3 updates (does not apply to Village of Trumansburg residents) The Town of Ulysses Water Department is in the process of upgrading its water meter readers. The new readers can be read remotely, making the meter reading process more efficient. You may see our water operators replacing your water meter in the months ahead. TOMPKINS COUNTY: NYSERDA funding opportunities for Commercial, Industrial, and Multifamily Properties The Tompkins County Business Energy Advisors (BEA) program assists business owners and facility managers in setting energy goals and understanding energy options during the earliest stages of project design and conceptualization, when it is the easiest and most cost-effective to incorporate energy efficiency improvements. BEA has announced that the NYSERDA Clean Energy Action Plan is offering increased incentives to help communities, businesses, and individuals access reliable clean energy alternatives to natural gas. Programs support clean heating and cooling options, including ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps, and provide technical and financial support for new construction or gut rehab projects. In addition, the Buildings of Excellence Competition can provide up to $1,000,000 for low emission, highly efficient multifamily buildings. For more information, visit http://tompkinscountyny.gov/bea. NEW YORK STATE: Annual Spring Burn Ban March 16 marked the first day of the annual spring burn ban, which continues statewide until May 14. This ban temporarily outlaws burning residential brush and yard debris due to the increased fire risk that warm spring temperatures and a lack of snow cover can create. The ban does not prohibit small campfires fueled by charcoal or untreated wood. Also, remember that burning trash and leaves is never allowed in NYS at any time of the year. Since the annual spring burn ban was enacted in 2009, spring wildfires have decreased by more than 40 percent. Be sure to always check the Fire Danger Map at http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/68329.html, or on the free New York Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife App, to know the fire risk in your area.
