Minutes
The minutes from the December meeting were approved unanimously on a motion by S.
VanDeMark and seconded by M. Hobbie.
D. Klein volunteered to take minutes for the January meeting.
Upcoming Meeting with Mayor
D. Krall met with our new Mayor Svante Myrick. The Mayor will come to our March 13
meeting. We will present him with concerns/issues/questions concerning parks. J. Grace will ask
Ray Benjamin to be there too. We should also have copies of the parks inventory with us that
day.
Parks Inventory Subcommittee
The subcommittee set up last month to review the inventory has not met yet. M. Wilson will pull
together a meeting
There was some discussion about land along Six Mile Creek in the Town of Ithaca that may have
been designated as substitute parkland for the City. Staff will check on this. Also, the Southside
Community Center playground is considered parkland but is not in the inventory.
Benches in DeWitt Park
Benches in DeWitt Park are unpainted and have graffiti on them. Beverly Baker will pay for
staining materials which will better enable the management of graffiti in the future. Also, the
square seat in the park is not holding paint well. Beverly, Holly Hollingsworth, Jeanne Grace,
and JoAnn Cornish will meet to discuss this issue.

Stewart Park Tree Grant
Four trees have been taken down so far under the grant that was received for tree replacement.
Ghost Bike in Washington Park
J. Cornish has contacted the national ghost bike organization and has received no response. She
will contact the Washington Park neighborhood for their input. The Disabilities Advisory
Council may have been involved in its installation. J. Cornish will contact them as well. The
Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Council should be contacted too. In discussing this, the idea came
up to have a positive substitute for taking it away. A bike rack or a bench were discussed as
possibilities. This again brought up the need for a memorial policy. J. Cornish will send around
the work that was done on a memorial policy already.
Possible Sale of City Property on the 700 Block of E. Seneca St. (Tax parcel #68.-2-9.2)
Concerning the City-owned lot on Seneca Street, we passed unanimously the following
resolution. The resolution was moved by Margaret and seconded by Suzanne. [JoAnn has the
final wording of the resolution]
Community Development Block Grant
There is an opportunity to apply for a Community Development Block Grant. An application
would need to focus on downtown. D. Krall suggested applying for money to put in berry bushes
and benches in Wood Street Park, Titus Triangle, and maybe Baker Park. The grant is due
March 2, 2012.
Membership
The Parks Commission needs new members. Dan Krall will ask Steve Austin. Roberta will ask
Chris Glovitz.
An ordinance change may be necessary to modify membership requirements. Staff will look into
this.
Parks Update on BPW Agenda
There was a discussion about the need to update the BPW about what we are doing. Can we
report at every BPW meeting? M. Wilson will find out.
