APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Abrams made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 12, 2010 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Richardson. Motion carried 2-0. NEW BUSINESS New Position Duties Statement: DPW (Streets and Facilities) – Motor Equipment Mechanic Supervisor The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from the Streets and Facilities Division of the Department of Public Works. Commissioner Richardson made a motion to classify the position as Motor Equipment Mechanic Supervisor. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. New Position Duties Statement: Ithaca City School District – School Lunch Director The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from the Ithaca City School District. Commissioner Richardson made a motion to classify the position as School Lunch Director. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. Revision of Job Description – School Lunch Director The Commission reviewed and discussed proposed revisions to the School Lunch Director job description. The revisions replace the phrase “school lunch” with “food service” throughout the job description. Commissioner Richardson made a motion to revise the job description as proposed. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. Revision of Job Description – Director of Resident Services The Commission reviewed and discussed proposed revisions to the Director of Resident Services job description. The revisions update the language in the job description to reflect the specific work activities currently being performed, and amend the minimum qualifications to read as follows: Civil Service Commission June 2, 2010 Page 2 “MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Gerontology, Social Work, Counseling, Education or a closely related field with similar course curriculum and four (4) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time and/or volunteer equivalent, working in a human services or community agency in a human services position which involved the provision of direct services to clientele; or B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two year college or university with an Associate's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Gerontology, Social Work, Counseling, Education or a closely related field with similar course curriculum and six (6) years of full-time paid experience, or its part-time and/or volunteer equivalent, working in a human services or community agency in a human services position which involved the provision of direct services to clientele; or C. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.” The revisions also add possession of a valid NYS Class D driver license as a special requirement. Commissioner Abrams made a motion to amend the Director of Resident Services job description, including the minimum qualifications and special requirements, as proposed. Seconded by Commissioner Richardson. Motion carried 2-0. EXECUTIVE SESSION Commissioner Richardson made a motion to go into executive session to discuss civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. During executive session, the Commission took the following actions: CONTINUING BUSINESS Establishment of Eligible List Commissioner Abrams made a motion to establish Firefighter Eligible List #63-287 for a period of three years. Seconded by Commissioner Richardson. Motion carried 2-0. Addition of Names to Continuous Recruitment Eligible Lists Commissioner Richardson made a motion to add names to the continuous recruitment eligible lists. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. Approval of Personnel Transactions Commissioner Richardson made a motion to approve the Personnel Transactions. Seconded by Commissioner Abrams. Motion carried 2-0. Civil Service Commission June 2, 2010 Page 3 The next Civil Service Commission meeting will be held Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 9:30 am. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:36 am.
