HomeMy WebLinkAboutMN-CSC-2010-05-01CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION Regular Meeting May 12, 2010 Commissioners Present: Commissioner Richardson Commissioner Abrams Commissioner Thompson Staff Present: Valerie Saul (Deputy Director of Human Resources) Commissioner Richardson called the meeting to order at 10:00 am. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Abrams made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 7, 2010 meeting. Seconded by Commissioner Richardson. Motion carried 3-0. NEW BUSINESS New Position Duties Statement and Adoption of Job Description: Planning Department – Energy Sustainability Project Manager (12 month temporary position) The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from the Planning Department and the proposed job description for Energy Sustainability Project Manager. The Planning Department is requesting a temporary, twelve (12) month position that corresponds with the grant funding available for this position. Commissioner Abrams made a motion to classify the position as Energy Sustainability Project Manager, adopt the job description as proposed, and authorize the temporary position for the period August 1, 2010 through July 31, 2011. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. New Position Duties Statement: Ithaca City School District – Senior Typist The Commission reviewed and discussed a New Position Duties Statement from the Ithaca City School District. Commissioner Thompson made a motion to classify the position as Senior Typist. Seconded by Commissioner Richardson. Motion carried 3-0. OLD BUSINESS Revision of Job Description – Lifeguard The Commission reviewed and discussed proposed revisions to the Lifeguard job description. The revisions update the language in the job description, and align the specific certifications required for appointment with those that are required and accepted by the NYS Department of Health. Commissioner Richardson made a motion to revise the job description and the special requirements as proposed. The special requirements will now read as follows: Civil Service Commission May 12, 2010 Page 2 “SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possession of appropriate lifeguard training and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certifications as required by the New York State Sanitary Code at the time of appointment and maintenance of said certifications for the duration of employment. 2. Must be at least seventeen (17) years of age to be eligible for appointment.” Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion to table carried 3-0. EXECUTIVE SESSION Commissioner Richardson made a motion to go into executive session to discuss civil service examination matters. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. During executive session, the Commission took the following actions: CONTINUING BUSINESS Approval of Rosters of Candidates for Examination Commissioner Richardson made a motion to approve the Rosters of Candidates for Examination listed below. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. Police Officer #65-229 Stock Room Manager #77-639 Establishment of Eligible Lists Commissioner Abrams made a motion to establish the eligible lists specified below for the time period indicated. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. Bridge Systems Engineer #62-699 (1 year) Community Service Officer #69-998 (2 years) Addition of Names to Continuous Recruitment Eligible Lists Commissioner Abrams made a motion to add names to the continuous recruitment eligible lists. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. Approval of Personnel Transactions Commissioner Richardson made a motion to approve the Personnel Transactions. Seconded by Commissioner Thompson. Motion carried 3-0. The next Civil Service Commission meeting will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 9:30 am. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 10:56 am.
