Rental Housing Advisory Commission Meeting Minutes
March 19, 2014
Present - Carole Fisher, Ashley Popp, Denise Thomson, Julie Paige, Larry
Beck, Ric Cowan, Sean Hillson, Josephine Martell
1 - Quorum 6 of 8 members present. Future 9th member will fill a tenant
position on the commission.
2 - February Minutes approved.
3 - Resolution on Certificates of Compliance discussed. Sean Hillson will
seek Building Dept data on the number of rental properties which are not in
Compliance with NY State and Ithaca Housing Codes. Motion to table the
resolution until next month, for report on actual numbers of non - compliance
can be added to the resolution.
4 - Smoking disclosure ordinance proposed by Tobacco Free Tompkins County
was discussed. Some property owners have established no smoking policies
for their buildings, but most do not wish to have yet another disclosure
requirement. Others suggest that a tenant who has a problem with others'
smoking should be held responsible to ask about a building's smoking
policy.
5 - Meeting adjourned at 6:20 pm
