20. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
The
structure is a good local example of the transitional Queen. One to Col-
onial Revival "a't;y le", an overlapping of two di.stinut architectural styles of
the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It was built on the site
of Hermon C<amp's first home co IP2111830 (prior to the Camn House) , the drive
to the house originally being part of present. day Main at_ e-et, Local histor-
ian Lydia Sears has suggested that the, present structure grew from the older
Camp house core, thus the Queen Ann6_0olonial Revival_ sections wpuJd be ad_di-
tions® No documentation verifying this idea h.ns been found to date. The
house is best remembered locally as the home of 2dw=a.rd Louton (c. 1900-191.0) ,
former Village postmaster® During the kid itwentieth century the 'House was
divided_ into apartments® The Feltz family bought it as a 3-family home in
1956 a 7, adi-,Vert:ed it into a 2—f aril T house with' the front roomi used as an
insurance office, o l:!.etime after 1973, when the PeltzOs sold_ the house, it
was converted into 4 apartments. According to Mrs, Peitz, the front (north)
rooms were used as a tea room during the 1009s.

20. HISTORICAL AND ARCHITECTURAL IMPORTANCE:
This structure was built in two stages displaying features of two
different architectural periods. The older Greek Revival core is at the
rear and the more modern "Eastlake" or cr.aftsian inspired addition is
at the front or north.
During the mid to late 1800's, Sir, Farrington owned the core structure
and occupied it as his home and office. Orlando Newell purchased the
property (and the adjacent lots and houses, # 64 and #66) between 1696
and 1900, At that time he constructed the front (north) section of the
present house and built the small two story house at the rear of the lot.
This smaller structure served as the bee house for the Newell family's
honey business.
